Will my saved games uninstall with games I uninstall?
I have written something similar but cannot find it in forum. I am new to PC gaming and was a PS4 gamer before this. On PS4 when uninstalling games, the saved data was kept. Is it the same when uninstalling games on PC when done through Steam?

When the Steam game has cloud saves, then yes.

It varies from game to game.

Some keep the saves on your PC, some delete them and some keep them on the cloud so if you have an online connection when you start the game up again after reinstalling it you can still access it.

Unless the game's ancient, no.

No. Most game saves are stored outside of Steam's folders, and Steam isn't deleteing data outside it's folders typically.

  1. Steam installs a game within a Library folder you've specified.
  2. The game itself creates configuration and save folders, often in My Documents.
  3. Steam removes the game's folder when you uninstall it. It doesn't go out across your PC and find everything the game has done and remove that as well.

So as a result game saves are typically pretty safe. A few games may elect to keep their saves within their own game's folder. But I haven't seen games that do that personally within my collection.

You can also use something like game-save-manager to backup save files. I back mine up to a dropbox folder that way if say my SSD was to die wouldn't really have an issue.

if the game puts its saves under its install directory, then yes. most games put the saves somewhere else. there have been various standards and practices over the years regarding where this is. it changes over time and there has also been some choice of what standard to go by.

see if the game has an entry on pcgamingwiki
