and now Steam no longer allows links to toornament tournament sign-ups?! wtf? why?
And another very disappointment with Steam.

Apparently, Steam no longer allows links in Group Announcements or Discussions to the toornament website portal for tournament sign-ups. Really Steam? Wow, just wow.

It was bad enough that Steam did not allow any links in our Group's 'Events' posting - at least I could add the links in the 'comments' underneath the 'Event' post (when a tournament event was to take place).

But now Steam no longer allows any links in any Group Announcement or Group Discussion thread if that link goes to the toornament website portal for tournament sign-ups.
Thanks a lot Steam.

Our gaming group has over 5700 members and our game (Quake Champions) is free to play in the Steam platform.
But apparently, Steam does not want members to have access to links at the toornament website portal for sign-ups for tournaments.

Anyone know why?
Scratch that - I don't care anymore.

btw - Links to any twitter link inside any steam discussion or announcement still do not work if the person is within the steam platform environment and their default browser is Firefox.
The twitter links do work if the person accesses the steam group from their browser directly though - which is just weird. Either Firefox is borked (since May 2020) or Steam changed something back in May because there used to be no problem with twitter links.

tldr; Steam sucks with every 'update' that takes away another tool to use for groups to enjoy a game.
I guess I now understand now why other games use their own independent launcher for their games and third party forums for those games discussions and information.

Glad Reddit links still work in steam - or will that soon come to an end too?!!?

Every link I have ever seen to a tournament page is an attempt to hijack someone's account. So good riddance in my opinion.
Basically because of users spamming the links to phish/hijack accounts.

And referrals aren't allowed.

Because they're all scamming sites.

Wise up. This isn't new. It's just newly enforced.

Thanks a lot Steam.
No, you mean "Thanks a lot, you scamming jerks that forced Steam to do this"

Gee, maybe it's because most if not all tournament links are designed to steal people's accounts. Valve protecting people from scams is not why games would go independent or use third party forums, unless those games are scams themselves.
