a projectile is something that is thrown or launched while light/laser is emitted.
but since i am not a scientist, i could be wrong.
the mandalorian armor however can withstand more hits from laser weapons.
They all cause 2nd degree burns instead of instant death.
I'd say a bomb squad suit would make you invincible against all their handguns.
Modern body armor is meant to protect you from shrapnel wounds, which used to make up about 70% of casualties in WW1/2. Storm trooper armor seems to be designed for similar purposes.
Energy weapons can deposit so much energy into a surface that it explodes due to shear stresses from extreme temperature differentials, potentially creating much more superheated shrapnel fragments than a bullet in a similar scenario.
So even if the armor 'stops' the blast from touching you the armor might explode, melt, or light on fire if it isn't specifically designed for this projectile.
So anything that would protect you from the heat would pretty much just make them ineffective. Energy weapons don't have penetration.
And the kinetic armor you're talking about is dragon skin. They made it out of silicon carbide ceramics. The interlinking discs allowed for significantly more shots to be taken than standard military body armor.
Technically, most plasmas still have kinetic energy as they have non-negligible masses. Kind of depends on what the plasma is made out of, such as iron or just atmosphere, and whether or how much it 'condenses' the material before firing.
Also from what I've seen of dragonskin it doesn't stop kinetic energy, just penetration. Their demo videos show them pinning the vest in place, and it still jangles and flies all over. Could probably just weave it onto a kevlar vest and see a massive improvement over the plates for anything but straight concussive blasts, but the plates are almost guaranteed to prevent bone breaks and are disposable to boot.
It's probably a budget thing, similar to how we don't use energy weapons.
If you're not important to the plot, or if the plot demands that you die, then you're SOL.
as i'm aware we've yet to accomplish this, because Plasma Shots
don't actually harm anyone, nor do they even work as a Weapon...
But none the less, we keep trying new ways to make it work, eventually
one day we could get there, or just ultimately give up on the idea all together
at some point...
We don't have such technology, so we can't test it.
