Uploaded gifs no longer hold transparency?

Not sure which part is supposed to be transparent? The profile pic and art look fine to me.

Don't see anything wrong with it. As the first reply suggested, be more specific of what you mean by "transparent"

What are you talking about? Once a file is uploaded it remains in the state its in.

Your gif suffers from severe dithering (a result of exceeding the 256 color limit of the gif format), not transparency issues.

Nothing to do with anything "Steam" or "Valve" did (I read the comment you placed on your artwork)

Has nothing to do with file changing, but perhaps what renders behind our artwork.

The gif on my profile used to show the background through it on the left. Now it appears as a black bar for me. The file is the same as it was when I uploaded it - transparent. However, there's a black bar behind the gif now.

yeah I suspect that's because the panel that the gif is on is now opaque and not transparent itself.

Yeah. That's what I mean. The fake panel border used to look identical to the real one. Now it just looks solid black to me.

I used to make a lot of character information sheets for Deviantart adoptable creatures and for a long time managed to match the background color of their pages.

And then, they changed it so badly lol. I know the feeling of this, believe me.
