Steam re-login
Hey guys!
I've been using VPN on my pc for long now, but recently whenever I connect my VPN, it auto logs me out of steam and a promt to login again comes up. Is this normal or do I need to change my credentials on steam?

Modern anti-virus like for instance the one I'm using is Kaspersky has a built-in VPN. If you're clearly not using it for exploits then there's nothing to worry about like what these people mention.

All I can say is that they can't answer your question directly and just post here for the post count. I suggest you ignore them as they'll bump your post anyway to the top.

Don't hesitate to contact support for inquiry and you can always stop using it if they really tell you to compared here where they're no valve employees to be certified to do so in enforcing you again and again without official statement regarding about your issue.

Steam doesn't encourage or endorse the use of VPNs, because people may use them to cheat the sales system, buy games outside their area, or that kind of thing.

Contact steam support if you couldn't get your answers from here.

Steam has recently been clamping down further on VPN IP addresses and servers. Using a VPN to connect to Steam is against the SSA. I'd suggest you turn it off when using Steam to avoid getting your account flagged.

I dont use VPN to benefit form it like purchase games for cheap and ♥♥♥♥. It is set to remember my password so it auto logs me in when I open my pc. But when I connect to my VPN, it logs me out and prompts me to re enter the password. I never opened steam while using VPN at the first place. Some background processing maybe there but I never physically open steam while running/before using my VPN.

Edit:Spellings

If your IP address changes to a vastly different location while you're logged into Steam, it's only prudent for Steam to wonder if some shenanigans are afoot and demand re-authentication.
They can't tell if you're fiddling with your network or if someone is trying to do some session-stealing nonsense.

Pretty much this. If the users location has changed dramatically then the user would have to relog for security purposes and so Steam can get a fixed location on the current IP instead of feeding off the original log.

OP is saying he's been doing this for quite awhile but the logout issue came recent.

The KEYWORD here is "recent" so he's been doing this for quite a long time now but not now therefore it has nothing to do with the VPN policy you mention unless some update came in which none of you provided yet..

Hello,

Playing games or operating Steam while using a VPN is not strictly prohibited.

However, it may affect gameplay and the Steam client itself.

A Steam account will only be restricted for actions that violate the Steam Subscriber Agreement or Steam Online Conduct Rules, so please keep in mind that purchasing games while your VPN is active is a violation of our Terms of Service.

If you have any further questions, please let us know - we will be happy to assist you.

I said VPN policy not VPN's policy. I'm talking about Steam statement about its VPN policy.

I doubt about it.

OP, don't hesitate to contact support about your issue. I've told you that certain people are just here for the post count and just post non sense claims. You got nothing to worry about VPN as these people claim to be as long as you know your stance.

I say once again, they're no valve employees and contact the person who's in charge.

VPN usage isn't prohibited on the platform although the dated Steam Subscriber Agreement is worded to seem that way. As long as you don't deliberately manipulate your location to access restricted content or to try and obtain games cheaper with region-rigging, you wont be penalised. People in the military, at university and ones typically on the move may use VPN's for privacy and security.

Here is an old response from Steam Support https://imgur.com/a/OEyW7 I did see a more detailed recent one sometime last year which I'll try and dig out. The SSA does need updating and better clarification.
