[SOLVED] Xbox 360 & One S Controller "Fast Scroll Enabled" (***THIS IS SOFTWARE - NOT DRIFT!!!***)
A toddler was pressing my keyboard and mouse while friends were over tonight
Since then *every* xbox 360 wireless controller & a One S Controller (Wired Mode)'s Right-Stick stays activated in the direction it is pressed in - every game ***BUT ONLY ON STEAM***

DRM-Free games that are NOT launched via steam are unaffected
But if the same DRM-Free game is launched via Steam shortcut, the problem returns

Again, this is *NOT* Hardware related and is *NOT* Drift, this is a software setting that appears to be Steam related, not Win 10 (as inferred by the fact that the DRM-Free game doesnt do this outside of Steam)

I first came across this after the toddler and parents left, and me and a mate sat down to try my gaming system for the first time (he hadnt played anything with me before)
Straight away one Steam game (Split/Second) wouldnt work with the 360 Controllers (it does have a bug being a console port that sometimes the game will launch and the controllers wont work, but a relaunch fixes it - and its incompatible with my xbone controller) but doing so didnt help

The next game (Audio Surf) my XB360 Controllers (while they hadnt been used for a while) i noticed "appeared" to be playing up, with the R-Stick staying active in the direction that it was pressed in. Thinking this was some sort of Drift issue myself, and as we were now playing solo in turns, I switched to my few months old XBOne S wireless controller in wired mode. same thing happened...

there is no information online (google) that i can find that doesnt blame DRIFT, or old damaged Controllers.

as near as i can tell, this is a keyboard shortcut activated Steam setting that has affected *ALL* my controllers on a software level - but not win 10 on a system level

any ideas people?

in case you missed it, this is NOT Drift or a Damaged Controller

EDIT: I mentioned in one of my posts here that it was weird that my Steam games were affected (in this case I tested with Split/Second [Not compatible with Xbox One Controllers, but this time my Xbox 360 Controllers didn't either] and Audiosurf [the Right Analogue Stick sped around all over the place, and didn't control the Music Window's Up/Down Scroll like it should have - it even controlled Windows 10 like a Mouse for some reason] ), but my DRM-Free Games (tested on Beat Hazard) worked fine.

This was because this was NOT a Win 10 issue, but solely a Steam issue. What was hard was trying to find the right search parameters without knowing exactly what was wrong (seeing I wasn't there when the toddler happened). Most fixes stated Xbox One Consoles, so I wrongly presumed this was a Win 10/Microsoft issue

CONFIRMATION OF ISSUE: I logged in on the spare Steam Account I set up for my Mother. But this Steam Account DID NOT have the same Fast Scroll issue as my own account (even when Steam Account sharing Audiosurf, which was the most noticeably affect game).

SOLUTION: I deleted my Steam User Data Folder (.../steam/userdata/*insert your own user number*). But first I copied my screenshot folder (.../*insert your own user number*/760). Once the delete was done, I restarted Steam, logging into my Account (copying my Screenshot folder back in afterwards), then tested Audiosurf once again... Fixed - the Right Analogue Stick now controls the scroll window function and doesn't speed around like a lunatic; and now my xbox 360 controllers work with Split/Second again!

Damn that took 2.5 WEEKS!!!

What does that mean?

Try steam, settings, controller, general settings and unmark all there.

in game - by tap/press left or right on the right analogue stick, to adjust your direction in a say racing game, that direction stays active until you tap/press a different direction...

if you meant the "wired more" comment, the xbox one s controllers have 3.5 connection modes for pc:

1 - wireless (usb adaptor)
2 - wireless (bluetooth - iOS13 native compatibility)
3 - wired (battery-less using micro usb cable)
3.5 - wired (charge battery packs and play using micro usb cable)

but only the newer xbox one controllers that have the face plate surrounding the controls *&* the x/guide button
the older xbox one controllers have a separate plating for the x/guide button - and doesn't include bluetooth

will have another look at steam controller settings - maybe reset both 360 and the one controller settings

while testing those settings checks in my game (audio surf) i discovered something that both makes sense and raises more questions

i dont know how but i think due to the way i played audio surf, i didnt see the issue clearly
i play audio surf using one analogue stick for each direction to change between the 3 lanes - and letting go is supposed to recentre onto the middle lane
this time round i accidentally discovered that, rather than *locking* in the direction pressed, in game the right analogue stick is doing something different

the right stick only is not only not re-centering, but further it becomes more controlled like the mouse does in game

to explain: the thumb sticks on 360 and One controllers are supposed to go to the extreme edges of the outside lanes when activated in those directions and recenter when not. the mouse is "free-moving" in that you have more control in where you move half way between the lanes - not just the extreme edges

right now due to the software activation by the toddler, the right stick is acting more like the mouse in this example - but due to my play style (and my friend's in-experience) we didnt see this at first...

upon noticing this i looked closer at the menus and found something else

normally the left stick moves the cursor within the window when browsing for a song to play/navigating the menu - while the right stick scrolls the window to see whats off screen

currently both left and right are moving the cursor around - the right isnt scrolling the window
*but* the right stick is moving way too fast!

now i have something to search for - something that ive been able to find results for
*"xbox one controller fast scroll"*
seems on console this is a feature one can use to speed up the right stick
- but most do not like it
- and most do not know how they activated it in the first place
- also, i have yet to find a way to deactivate it on win 10 - the only solutions involving a xbone console reset

this now raises the questions of:
- how a toddler activated it on my PC without acess to my controller in the first place?!
- why does it affect my 360 controllers?
- and why does this not affect my DRM-Free games?

TL/DR - how to turn off **fast scroll** on win 10?
