Can't add Game Pass games to library
So I assume you are all aware of a function within Steam that allows you to add shortcuts to non-Steam applications to your library. My problem is that I am unable to add my intended target to the library - not even a shortcut.

So the full story is that recently, I have been playing Ori and the Will of the Wisps through the Xbox Game Pass. This is because I have the Game Pass and I'm not willing to paying fifty dollars for anything which I'm sure most of you hide. Now, at one point, I decided to try and add Wisps to my Library through the Add A Game function. Browse didn't work as the Xbox app uses a different filepath from every other app(figured out by right-clicking Xbox then clicking Properties)and neither did making a shortcut for Wisps as the Add A Game menu doesn't list desktop shortcuts. Even when I do Browse, the problem that is an irregular filepath causes the desktop shortcut to be hidden in File Explorer menus. Any fixes for this? It isn't a priority, but I would definitely like to see a fix, so thanks in advance.

I think they (microsoft) encrypt and hide the games. Cause i got a 3 moth pass when i bought my new gpu. And i couldn't find the files no where. Even search came up empty.

Not sure what we do with our money has any bearing on what you do with yours. But anyway...

From what I gather they implement Universal Windows Platform (UMP) which is a proprietary runtime environment on Windows 10. Apps from the Windows Store, including the XBox GamePass, runs through this service.

There is a open-source application called UWPHook which allows you to add any UMP application, XBox Game, MS Office product, etc, to Steam.

I don't have any experience with it but that's the direction you'll need to take.

Yep, ask Microsoft they obfuscate the file path, so its a pain.

Everything is in a hidden "WindowsApps" folder in program files. Everything is heavily locked up and it's a long drawn out process to transfer ownership of the file to give yourself permissions just to view the folder. You might be able to unlock the folder to allow steam to use the .app files, but I don't think it would be worth the effort. What you can do is set up a notepad document for every game you own on there and then link to that. It means you'll always have a notepad open in the background and it's not elegant but steam knows enough to transfer the overlay to any full screen application, so just launch the game afterwards and that's a way around it potentially... hope this helps!

you replied to a year old thread that already had a better answer than yours.

I've added games from epic just fine, just have to dig around for the correct executable, sometimes there's more than one like Fortnite uses.

As for the original post (yes I know it's and old thread and someone bumped) but for future reference use UWPHOOK which can be found here: https://m.majorgeeks.com/files/details/uwphook.html

Works with all Microsoft store games, even apps.
