NEW WAY TO SCAM YOUR PROFILE WITH FAKE TOURNAMENTS IN CS:GO!
Today someone added me randomly on steam. Profile looked legit, 1.4k hrs in cs steam level 12. although a picture of a girl and stuff like that. (To elaborate further i have rather expensive skins on showcase so i recently got more and more friend requests). Then all of a sudden i get messaged if i want to take part in a tournament, because they need a rifler/awp. OFC the simp i am say yeeees of course, i blindly trust strangers on the internet. then i got this link "[REMOVED]" (DONT CLICK ON EITHER) there is a variation of this link, goes like this: "eslfightleague .com". looked legit and all, but making a legit website these days isnt really hard. I then proceeded to register through steam (I should mention i have a throwaway account for these cases to annoy scammers!) and there was another biiiig red flag: enter password and username. To all unfamiliar: If you have to register on thirdparty sites using steam username and password, dont do anything on that site. close it report the person who sent you the link and block them.

SIDENOTE: a buddy of mine recently got his account hacked this way (he got his acc. back by now so all good) The way it worked was that he entered his password and stuff on a fake scamwebsite for trading. there he had to use the MOBILE AUTHENTICATOR to confirm the code. Then all of a sudden his email, password and phone number got deleted off of the account and new ones were entered. So for the love of god dont just throw around your steam ID and password, those two things should be guarded by you as if they were holy.
SIDENOTE END.

Now back to the main event: i entered password and account ID of my throwaway account. lo and behold i had to confirm the code using my email (throwaway email naturally). did that, nothing happened. then all of a sudden the account was gone, email and password changed, but all they got was a profile which stated what morons they are and that i now have their IP adress. (ofc i didnt have the ip adress but its nice to scare such idiots). went to confront the scammer, he/she/it? denied everything got angry and so on. then i just blocked the profile, reported it and went on to here writing this post.
There is another entry similar to this, but in russian. I will link it here: [REMOVED]
it is however in russian, but as i am in an international study program i know people who speak russian and asked them to translate it. basically the guy/girl in the linked post had a similar experience to mine and wants to warn you.

The main takeway from my experience. IF you have expensive items just dont showcase em or if you do dont accept any random friend requests. second protect your steam ID and password as if they were the mcguffin the crusaders were after. and lastly if you want to troll such idiots, do it (highly funny) but do so safely. So throwaway account and email, DO NOT link your phone to the throwaway accounts, and waste as much time as possible with them and see how they start steaming (haha) and consequently laugh at them. Hope this was helpful to some or amusing.

Fake tournament scam has been relevant for the past 5 years or so, when gambling was at its peak because there weren't too many restrictions at the time.

Your learn new stuff every day, just beware and use common sense. Not that hard to realize whether an offer is too good to be true.

Also, this is a CSGO topic, you should've posted there. Even though, it's common a scam but you are free to share your experience and to pass the word for those who are unware of such sketchy doing.

No need to feel ashamed. My point was that you approach people who play the game there. Pretty much it.

Your... let's call it ... wall of text will not change anything about the behaviour of other users.

And you may have noticed that the world does not revolve around you. This is a known scam, it is in no way new.
