I assume bots are trying to send me harmful links through my direct chat... can steam do somthing about this!? Its happening like every hour and I nearly clicked on 1 thinking it was my friend whos new to steam called...victoria XD

Funny thing is that a large % of steam users will fall for this, being that we are all horny 12yearolds or 30 yearold virgins.

I never fall for those anyways. I know it's fake or scam attempts. But yes, sadly a lot of people would fall for it

I'm pretty sure it's a temporary glitch that will soon be fixed, the forums are full of posts about this. Non-friends should not be able to message you.

it's not a glitch, i can't say what websites they are but if you use the epicsearch browser and search "steam spambot" the first results are sites selling scripts which let you spam people in this way.

i also saw on reddit there was a way to do it on tampermonkey. i saw this when i was doing basic research on this fiasco by the way, so it's hardly secret knowledge.

Yeah, had a massive increase in these messages recently, would usually only get one every few months, but I've had 7 today alone

Well that sucks. Steam support must be drowning in complaints about it though, judging by these forums, so they'll probably do something about it I'd say.

Those messages started for me after setting my inventory visiblity to public, maybe setting it to private would at least stop the messages ?

beware there are alot of old gay men on steam pretending to be sexy girls they mostly hang around in the csgo lobby . ;) You recognize them by noskill all hax game play and sexy icon pics. Id say just inform your local cyberfraud squad .
