No mouse cursor in game while streaming
I stream games from my PC to my living room TV. I was using a steam link device, but yesterday I switched to the steam link app on my Samsung smart TV to cut down on unneeded hardware.

It works for the most part, but there are some games (e.g. Grim Dawn) that use a mouse cursor that had previously controlled with the R-pad on the steam controller. Now when I play these games, the cursor is no longer visible on the client. It's there; I can hear and see hover cues when I move it around the screen, I just can't see the cursor. I did not have this issue when using the separate Steam Link device.

I saw another topic similar to this where the user's PC was "headless". That's not the case here. My host PC is fully set up with monitor, keyboard, and mouse. In fact, I can see the cursor on the monitor for the PC while it's streaming to the TV.

Anyone encounter this before?

I stumbled on a fix for this whilst trying to use steam-link on a Samsung the frame tv 32" 2020. There are a few steps STEPS 1 AND 2 ARE THE IMPORTANT ONES..!) THE OTHERS ARE TWEAKS SPECIFIC TO MY WIFI/SETUP:

1. In mouse properties in win10, under the pointer options tab, TICK DISPLAY POINTER TRAILS -> ON and set to short, (needs to be set to display the mouse pointer at all.)
(*IMPORTANT STEP*)

2. With steam in desktop mode, go to SETTINGS -> REMOTE PLAY -> ADVANCED HOST OPTIONS, then untick everything, except .. Use NVFBC capture on NVIDIA GPU.. (leave Number of software encoding threads on automatic)
(*IMPORTANT STEP*)

3. go back to steam settings -> ADVANCED CLIENT OPTIONS:
performance overlay -> any choice here
limit bandwidth to -> 50MBit/s (if using dual 5GHz wifi)
limit resolution to -> 4k
speaker-> stereo
overlay-> default button
TICK -> Enable hardware decoding
UNTICK -> Enable touch control

4. go back to steam settings in desktop mode -> remote play -> allow direct connection (IP sharing) -> DISABLED

client options streaming to this computer -> Beautiful

5. Perhaps restart steam and check the settings are the same as above in big picture mode *and* in desktop mode (!)

6. If the pc didn't have steam on in the first place, reboot the pc and run steam again in desktop mode.

7. now goto steam-link on your Samsung tv -> add your PC and put the codes in and pair in steam... I chose the settings:

streaming -> beautiful
start streaming desktop -> Enabled
bandwidth limit -> 30MB/s
resolution limit -> 3840x2160 (2160p)
performance overlay -> any setting
video streaming -> Enabled
audio streaming -> Enabled
input streaming -> Enabled

8. Now link up and the mouse pointer will show in everything... in-game, out of game, on desktop.

9. SOME NOTES... This works fine for one PC, an Intel CPU, win10, Nvidia GPU (1050ti), on the other PC that wasn't Nvidia but using the built-in GPU in an intel 6600k, I had to untick everything in remote play -> advanced host options in steam to see the mouse pointer at all. (as it was intel graphics drivers)

HTH someone out there hung up on steam-link on Samsung TVs... :)

is steam link even still supported?

Both the app as well as the software for the device are well supported.. yes.
The only thing they stopped was manufacturing the devices because as a piece of hardware they weren't lucrative enough.

The concept of Steam Remote Play as well as the whole Steam Link concept is still fed with frequent updates - about weekly

Is a controller attached to your host? Since that in some cases could interfere with mirroring devices from a Steam Link (App). At least that was an issue for me at some point. Like he host thinks you are streaming with a Steam Link that plays with a controller and therefore hides the cursor

The controller's dongle is connected to one of the client TVs USB ports, not the host. It seems to have native support and the controller works fine.

Well it COULD be the issue. Maybe try playing without the dongle attached.
If that does not help it is definately something at the hosts end since the Steam Link (App) only gets an image like a twitch stream or something similar.

Sorry, how would I be able to use the controller without connecting the dongle?
Update:
I've tried using the controllers native bluetooth functionality by connecting it straight to the TV as an input device, rather than use the dongle. That made matters worse, because using it this way the TV apparently cannot recognize the inputs. Nothing I do with the controller has any affect when it's connected directly via bluetooth. I've since replaced the dongle into the TV. Anyone have any other ideas? Any help is appreciated.

Node that since my PC is in a separate room about 40 ft from the TV, connecting the controller to the PC directly is not an option.
I'm still having this issue and Steam Support is no help. I've since found out that this is actually not related to the game I'm playing, it's the Windows 10 cursor itself, since I also cannot see it on the client when I minimize big picture.

I've read other people having that issue when using headless PCs with no mouse attached, but like I said before, I've got a mouse attached to the PC, a Microsoft wireless USB mouse. The other solution I saw for headless PCs, turning on Mouse Keys, does not change anything.

I'm using the Steam Link app on my Samsung 4k TV. My PC monitor is also 4k and I typically keep the resolution at that level. I have desktop scaling set to 150%. Steam support suggested setting it back to 100% but that did not cause any change.

Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Same difficulties here, brand new TV (TU8000 50"), up to date steam link app, no visible mouse pointer in some games and on streamed desktop. The mouse is there and working. For example, right click on the desktop brings up the correct right click menu and buttons and links highlight as I roll the mouse across them, just no visible pointer. The pointer IS visible in some games and in the Big Picture interface. Any fixes yet?
Well, at least I'm not crazy and someone else is having the issue. I went back and forth with support for over a week and they eventually gave up and told me to enroll in the Steam beta (which I already was) keep an eye on updates. No fix yet that I know of.
This is a nightmare. Even when i use a wireless mouse on MY HOST PC I still see no cursor. So it turns out its not a Samsung issue cause why wouldn't I see a mouse cursor even if connected to the host? such BS. You can see why the steam console attempt was a massive failure lol
I have the issue as well. Brand new Samsung TV with Steam Link, beta Steam is not helping, running Steam as administrator is not helping, running the game in windowed is not helping, using the "Display pointer trails" mouse setting is also not helping. The "mouse" is there, the TV recognize it perfectly, because in Internet app I can use it flawlessly.
It happens only when the mouse is connected to the TV. If the mouse is not connected, the "display pointer trails" setting is doing the trick, but I want to connect the mouse to the TV because I'm using that in front of it, so why would I plug it into my computer 30 ft away from the place where I want it to use.
Have you been trying all of the above solutions as I am?
I have not connected a mouse to my TV because I only stream games that I play with the controller. I did previously try turning on pointer trails but that did not change anything.
Same issue here. Missing mouse cursor in games / desktop using Samsung steamlink app. Brand new Q90T. I'm not super thrilled that Samsung and Valve announced this feature if it can't get something as simple as a mouse cursor appearing right.
Hi everyone, anybody knows if steam is working in an update for steam link to solve this issue? On the other hand, is anyone that has not this problem with the mouse pointer in games?
