No mouse cursor in game while streaming
I stream games from my PC to my living room TV. I was using a steam link device, but yesterday I switched to the steam link app on my Samsung smart TV to cut down on unneeded hardware.

It works for the most part, but there are some games (e.g. Grim Dawn) that use a mouse cursor that had previously controlled with the R-pad on the steam controller. Now when I play these games, the cursor is no longer visible on the client. It's there; I can hear and see hover cues when I move it around the screen, I just can't see the cursor. I did not have this issue when using the separate Steam Link device.

I saw another topic similar to this where the user's PC was "headless". That's not the case here. My host PC is fully set up with monitor, keyboard, and mouse. In fact, I can see the cursor on the monitor for the PC while it's streaming to the TV.

Anyone encounter this before?

I stumbled on a fix for this whilst trying to use steam-link on a Samsung the frame tv 32" 2020. There are a few steps STEPS 1 AND 2 ARE THE IMPORTANT ONES..!) THE OTHERS ARE TWEAKS SPECIFIC TO MY WIFI/SETUP:

1. In mouse properties in win10, under the pointer options tab, TICK DISPLAY POINTER TRAILS -> ON and set to short, (needs to be set to display the mouse pointer at all.)
(*IMPORTANT STEP*)

2. With steam in desktop mode, go to SETTINGS -> REMOTE PLAY -> ADVANCED HOST OPTIONS, then untick everything, except .. Use NVFBC capture on NVIDIA GPU.. (leave Number of software encoding threads on automatic)
(*IMPORTANT STEP*)

3. go back to steam settings -> ADVANCED CLIENT OPTIONS:
performance overlay -> any choice here
limit bandwidth to -> 50MBit/s (if using dual 5GHz wifi)
limit resolution to -> 4k
speaker-> stereo
overlay-> default button
TICK -> Enable hardware decoding
UNTICK -> Enable touch control

4. go back to steam settings in desktop mode -> remote play -> allow direct connection (IP sharing) -> DISABLED

client options streaming to this computer -> Beautiful

5. Perhaps restart steam and check the settings are the same as above in big picture mode *and* in desktop mode (!)

6. If the pc didn't have steam on in the first place, reboot the pc and run steam again in desktop mode.

7. now goto steam-link on your Samsung tv -> add your PC and put the codes in and pair in steam... I chose the settings:

streaming -> beautiful
start streaming desktop -> Enabled
bandwidth limit -> 30MB/s
resolution limit -> 3840x2160 (2160p)
performance overlay -> any setting
video streaming -> Enabled
audio streaming -> Enabled
input streaming -> Enabled

8. Now link up and the mouse pointer will show in everything... in-game, out of game, on desktop.

9. SOME NOTES... This works fine for one PC, an Intel CPU, win10, Nvidia GPU (1050ti), on the other PC that wasn't Nvidia but using the built-in GPU in an intel 6600k, I had to untick everything in remote play -> advanced host options in steam to see the mouse pointer at all. (as it was intel graphics drivers)

HTH someone out there hung up on steam-link on Samsung TVs... :)

After years of mostly successful remote play use, my cursor suddenly started disappearing over remote play only from my mobile device. I was able to fix the issue by following step 1 and enabling pointer trails, then setting the duration to "short" for smoothness.

This also just started happening to me last month. I use steam link on an amazon fire stick 4k max which worked fine for the first few months of use. Haven't updated the app, mouse just stopped appearing. Must have been a steam update that broke it.

I also have this issue streaming. I can confirm that id doesn't mater the version of Windows which is steaming the content or the on the client playing receiving the stream, the cursor vanishes during the stream.
It is also only in the client window, once you switch Apps, the cursor returns, save while hovering over the client window, then it vanishes agan,

This issue makes the streaming ability rather useless, until this issue is resolved.,

Additional evidence. When I switch the KVM to the streaming system, the Cursor returned, even though I have display emulators attached to my computer. The issue come from their not being a mouse attached to the Stream serving system. Once I attached a wireless mouse dongle to the streaming system and moved the KVM to a different system the mouse cursor returned on the Client system, with in the games.

So the solution is to always have a mouse attached to the streaming system.

I've been facing a similar issue, using my pc headless with only an HDMI dummy plug. After trying to follow the steps provided unsuccessfully, I figured out that the problem was the fact that there wasn't a mouse connected to it. After plugged the mouse in, the cursor showed up.

It worked for me as well, seems it need the mouse plugged in.

Turning on pointer trails worked for me in Windows 10.

A fix I found was I needed a wired mouse plugged in to my main computer, meanwhile using my main wireless mouse while streaming on my TV. Although I have a problem with the mouse not clicking while streaming

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
