Any refund tips?
So i bought this episodic bundle game a few years back. Just played it a few weeks ago and the game crashes on the third one. The issue only happens in my device and i dont plan to play the fourth game because of it (the dev claimed the same will also happens on that game) so i requested a refund. However, my request got cancelled on steam.. twice. Even though i only played the fourth game for a minute (clicked the play button on accident).

Is there any way i can get my money back? I know it's a cheap game but still. I bought a game directly from steam because i expect that i can always refund it if something happens.

Iirc there is something about special case on refunds. Im not sure why my case isnt treated as such because the game crashed in my device.

EDIT: for those who are wondering, i ended up contacting the dev again about it. He said he can't help me to process the refund, but he ended up giving me another game key. It's not bad i think, especially since i could just play this game again after i upgrade my pc (which is the reason why it crashed in the first place).

If you got in the similar situation as me, try to ask for a solution with the dev. At least i learn something from this issue - never trust the steam refund system.

"A few years" is WAY past the two weeks refund window.

Refund conditions are less than 2 hours played AND less than 2 weeks owned.

Yeah i know that but the game is broken. Why can't i refund a broken game?

Its not like i have time to play a game that i just bought in 2 weeks. I know a lot of people leave their bought games sitting in their inventory for a long time before playing it too.

You did accept refund policy on purchase already. You don't get your money back.

Because the money has already been sent to the company, it cost Valve extra money to do a refund and you are asking for refund after years of owning the game. No company would give you full refund for it or even partial refund.

It seems like the refund system is such a joke then. Im not gonna spend a dime on steam anymore.

There is no way i can finish all those games in the bundle for 2 weeks; it even took me more than that to finish the first game. Why even make a refund system in the first place if it is not applicable.

Thanks for the response tho.

Tip: Read the refund policy.

Go to Barnes & Noble. Buy a book. Try to return it three years later and see what happens.

Do you know what sort of thing you can buy and then return it for whatever reason after "a couple of years"? I mean, anything, from anywhere? :O

and you think another site will give you a refund under the same conditions? they will also refuse to refund your game.

the game most likely does work, it just doesnt work on your computer. visit that games forum and inquire about what you can do to fix the issue. it could be something with your system causing the crash that a few keystrokes can solve.

It's probably only 'broken' for you. If people leave bought games for longer than the refund policy permits then they lose their entitlement too.

Refunds aren't there for you to claw back money years later. Yours has long been banked and spent.

Thats why i said to not even make a false hope of refund system in the first place if it is not working.

I already asked the dev about the issue and he gave me a workaround to do (which i dont like) and doesnt even bothered to fix the actual issue even though he has already aware of it in years.

It's been years since you owned the game. That is like buying a microwave using it only once and then decide a few years later to return it. It just won't happen.

You said in your OP that you bought them years ago. Had it been a week, perhaps two, that would be different. But YEARS?

There isn't a store in the world that is going to give you a refund after such time.

From steam support page:

There are more details below, but even if you fall outside of the refund rules we’ve described, you can ask for a refund anyway and we’ll take a look.

Thats what i mean by false hope. I was expecting they will go over my case and refund it because it was broken in mine, but nah. They only care for themselves.

Guess there is nothing use in replying this anymore then. Thanks for the answers tho.
