Why is there so much porn on steam
This is stupid, like if it had actual gameplay then its whatever. Instead I sort by lowest price and there is just an unreal number of "games" called "hentai X" or whatever. Its straight up porn and probably stolen porn at that. Steam seemed to be purging low quality vaporware games but why not these?

The filters don't catch everything, even on page one there were at least 3 porn games that didn't get blocked, but that wasn't the point of this post. Using the filter doesn't change that most of these barely qualify as games. And off sale most of these are 5$ or more which is wild for a tile sliding puzzle or an idle clicker. Its very clear when a game dev is there just to sell porn or if its a legit game that has nudity or sex as elements, and if they want to sell porn hey great for them, take it to nutaku or whatever. Just don't say its a game and sell it on a game service to people looking for games that arn't predominantly about anime ♥♥♥♥♥.
Op back to your original question.
Porn sells, simple as that.
Steam is for adults. Adults make decisions for themselves. Why do I need Steam to regulate my content? If you don't like it, you can block pornographic content from Steam. It's most likely called an adult content filter, or child mode, and its probably under you Steam settings.
Messaggio originale di The_Unknown_05:
name 5-10porn games which arent anime based lol

To name a few:

Being a ♥♥♥
Man of the House
Acting Lessons
Super Naughty Maid
Super Naughty Maid 2
Void's Calling ep.1
Twists of My Life
My Cute Roommate
Love Vibe: Aria
Lust Epidemic
Cockwork Industries Complete
SinVR
There are filters to block mature content and it is enabled by default, but my issue is not with that, even though they are flawed. Again, the post is about games being sold on steam where the predominant trait is to view porn, with little to no focus on gameplay mechanics or originality. I didn't say all anime is porn, or that porn is bad or good or anything. I said they don't deserve a place on steams marketplace if they don't contribute some level of gameplay that can justify being sold as a game. Selling pong with 20+ porn/hentai options for the background doesn't add anything to pong. Selling pong where the paddles are tits and shoot the ball based on the angle it hits them is passable, because it changes the mechanics of the game, it contributes to the gameplay. Genital joust is a great example of this.

I don't think I have ever really mistakenly come across a porn game. O_O

Okay, you are aware you are way late to the party to complain about these games being on Steam, right?

I get that you literally are attempting a holy crusade against Porn here, but it's not going to accomplish anything.

Just ignore the porn that you can't even see without specifically looking for it.
Why are you ignoring that?
You cannot find the porn without literally going out of your way to enable it to show up.

So, you are literally looking for porn and then complaining about it. That is hypocritical of you in the extreme.

And no, the filter works just fine. There is no flaw with it.
A search of top selling games, while logged out, sorted by lowest price: https://store.steampowered.com/search/?sort_by=Price_ASC&category1=998%2C996&filter=topsellers
#20 (catgirl lover) is a softcore porn game directly ripped from bejeweled/candy crush. tagged nudity and sexual content but still passes default filters.
#23 (taboos: cracks) is the same but with old maid. Tagged sexual content and nudity, and passes default filters.
#25 (bit blaseter XL) is an asteroid-inspired space shooter with 5k+ reviews, 97% approval and 0 adult content.

So if I sort by lowest price without changing my filters, 2 4 games still get by it. 11 more are blocked in the top 25, none of which seem to offer any original gameplay except for maybe waifu hell which looks like a doom clone, but is actually blocked by the filter. Also, Genital jousting is all ♥♥♥♥♥ and doesn't get blocked by the filter. And again, the issue is not the filter, or that its porn, but that there is no game aspect to it that justifies selling it. There's hundreds of other games on steam that are vaporware without porn, and they should get removed too (on a case-by-case basis), but I absolutely expect to go through vaporware because its a game marketplace.

Edit: just noticed hentai killer and anime standing also pass the filters and are tagged sexual content and/or nudity

In all honesty, I have been in steam for a while and I never actually seen any in my recommendation or store page mostly because I just keep to the genre I play and search only that.. Guess my search are niche enough to keep them away from me..
Ah ! The famous "I don't like something therefore it shouldn't exist" kind of thread.

If porn games bother you so much, you just have to activate the filter for adult content. I don't see how it seems so hard.

Also, the store tends to show you things similar to what you have or search. I don't look for porn games so I have very little porn games showing in my front page.

Otherwise, if you look for the cheapest games on the store, of course you'll find low quality asset flips/porn games. If you search at the bottom of the trash can, don't be surprised to find garbage.

It's fascinating how people opt into seeing such games and then act offended that Steam shows them such Adult Only games.
A category which must be enabled and is disabled by default.

I enabled that setting but did not understand it was for porn games.... The way I read and understood it was about mature games, confuse now I guess I will disable it. Thanks for telling how to remove it.

Me and my friends have noticed it too. Its a lot more prominent than it used to be when you go searching, easily pops up.

Unfortunately you are writing on the Steam forums so you'll get a ton of little kids defending and Complaining about your concerns.

As a parent though I wont be letting them use steam for a few years until they are old enough as even kids games get mixed up with porn games sometimes in a search every so often.

Steam just needs to make an Adult only section just like how ebay keeps it separate from their main items (Yes Ive been there), verify your age and keep it out of the kids site.

Pro tip: use the parental controls already provided. You can block or selectively allow things for your kids' accounts. Depending on how kid they are, you may block social features for their accoutns so they can still play games without you feeling them let unsupervised with random online weirdos.

No, thank you. If you don't want to see porn or don't want your kids to see porn, just set the apropriate filter. For everyone else, having to visit two storefronts to browse games is a pointless hassle.

Why a special section for 18+-games but not one for, let's say, 12+ anyway? There's heaps of games not qualifiying as porn but certainly too mature for kids (Killing Floor 2 would an example). would you want them in a separate section too?

Yes. I think the ESRB should be enforced here.

Yes. I think the ESRB should be enforced here.

Most games on Steam dont even have a ESRB rating.
Also national review boards like PEGI or USK have different standards for what is appropiate.
A game that is rated M in the USA for sexual content may be "USK 12" here in Germany because we are far less sensible to nudity and sex in media.

On the other hand, gory games that are rated T in the USA may be "USK 16" or "USK 18" here.

So which rating would need to be enforced? Each national one? Good luck with most countries dont even having something like that.

Catgirl lover and taboos: cracks both require a patch for nudity to be seen. You can only see the patches if the adult only is selected. So try again.
