How to Update a Game Remotely
I'm trying to figure out how to trigger a game update on my remote streaming PC from the client PC. At the moment when I try to stream a game the 'Stream' button is greyed out and beside it says "Update Required". There's a progress bar there but it never fills. Clicking the 'Update Required' text takes me to the updates for this PC, which isn't very helpful.

- Steam is up to date on both PCs
- Streaming definitely already works between these devices
- Games are set to auto update but due to the change in Valve's policy they get scheduled for some time next week, which isn't very helpful
- Logging on to the Steam website and managing my games does not let me update, only install if not already installed, which isn't very helpful either.

I'm sure I'm just missing some giant obvious update button somewhere, can someone help me out? I can go to the host PC and manually trigger the update, but it seems like I should be able to do it remotely

Since I was looking for the answer to this and couldn't find it, for anyone coming here in the future, you can "force update" your game from another PC (and presumable Mac) by doing the following:

1. You will need Steam Remote Play already activated on your game PC, and Steam installed on your current PC.

2. The remote play "Stream" option will be greyed out from your current PC, so open the Store page for the game, and click "Play Now." It will say "Game requires update" and force the update on your game host PC.

Bone app the teeth.

Just tried it and yep, it works. Thanks! This seems like a strange workaround, perhaps Valve would like to make this option available from the game library and not the store page? Weird.

And yes, works from a Mac to a host PC.

This doesn't seem to work anymore. It is very weird. I did the work around and it doesn't do anything.

Oh wait. I had to repeat the process a couple times but it worked out. Weird workaround. Really weird.
