Why is the "Golden Profile" not permanent?
It costs 5,000 points (aka $50), and it's only temporary?? I really want to get it, but not if it's going to expire in a month...

It is seasonal item, mean it comes in every (or almost every) big events.

The golden sale profiles are always temporarily.
I am just happy that all the rest is now permanent like the mini profiles, chat effects and such.
All those expired too until now.

Has Valve offered customized profiles before today (beyond basic background, showcase, and avatar customization)? I've been on Steam a long time, through many Summer Sales, and this is the first I've seen them...

Yeah all the animated stuff, frames, color changes and so on are new.
Users always complained that they wanted more options for profile decoration, now they got a whole shop for it.

No you don't HAVE to. And it doesn't cost $50 .. It's a free bonus for getting games for that money
Just spent your points on the permanent stuff we have now :)

And I love it. I think it's a really smart move by Valve. Just wish the Golden Profile...or at least the frame...was permanent!

You just use Steam like always, just from now on you get points for everything you will buy over the course of the year, also if people award you reward badges for your screenshots/reviews and workshop items.
Then you can spend the points whenever you want for some nice profile decoration.

Its a pure bonus system, nothing more.

Be a regular customer of steam. I got 110k points for FREE without spending anything on Summer Sale, because I purchase things regularly throughout the year, usually commit over $1000 a year to Steam, and because of that i have a permanent golden profile every time holidays come up without spending any extra.

I got 124k points and i did not buy anything yet in the sale. All from the rest of the year.

They'll probably change this when they realize no one is getting them. I got over 100k points without buying a single Summer Sale game, but there's no way I'm buying a temporary thing. Especially when there's permanent stuff to collect now.

Guess again. Previous sales events that had them learned that people get them in droves.

By keeping it temporary and seasonal, it increases likelihood that people get them again in the next event.
