What ruined Nickelodeon
in the past Nick's name was Pencil Toons but lets fast forward to where they changed the name to Nickelodeon...
While the other shows like rugrats and hey arnold and family odd parents were starting to fall a bit and nick was desperate to keep its high rank for best kids network they soon formed spongbob sqarepants, witch caused the fall of Nickelodeon.

Spongbob was so popular that Nick spent everything on it instead of its ither hit shows they spent money on the spongbob movie that got them 100K then they made Spongbob out of water movie, and they want to make another movie but they soon realise that their other shows are switching to ither networks that will care about them so nick was slowly every so slowly bringing them back by making new rugrats hey arnold shows but nick is still slowly dieing to this day
(i hope this helped <3) also R.I.P NIckelodeon cause of death was spongbob alsoim11 and i learned this info from SaberSpark XD

What killed Nick is the same thing that kills every other media company:

Boring, know-it-all executives that learned everything from the same university textbooks that all the others learned from; people without a single creative bone in their body who have the authority to smother those who do have creativity and talent.

What Florida Man said it partly correct. It was the executives that killed the network. They originally promoted themselves as a work place for creator driven cartoons. Then they started to pull a Hollywood move by trying to change the shows direction, or scripts to what the executives wanted. These creators got sick of this problem, and slowly they all left the network completely. I would suggest getting a DVD copy of Ren & Stimpy, and Invader Zim. As both talk about this exact thing in the DVD commentary tracks.

As for currently newer CEOs they are trying to fix the network. Many of them actually worked on the floor with the content creators of old. That is why they are slowly getting back the old shows with new episodes. These newer CEOs where personal friends of the classic show creators. Thus allowing the bond they made from years ago to help build the way to repair what was once a broken mess. As it was said Rome wasn't build in a day, and the same can be said for animated series. It will take a good number of years for the current CEOs to fix what the last quickly destroyed.

Anyways on a good note it was announced that Rugrats is getting a relaunch. This adds to the list of other titles that are/have been getting a relaunch. Hey, Arnold, Invader Zim, Double Dare, and Rocko's Modern Life are just a few that have already been put on the relaunch list. If they keep on the ball with more classics shows I can see them doing very well again. Personally I would love for them to give us an Are You Afraid of the Dark? relaunch.

In my words, Nickelodeon was destroyed because of the stupid cartoons which are 90% fart jokes which kids love.

In the early days of Nick they knew how to cater to a wide audience. They had shows for young children throughout most of the day and then had programming that was catered to teenagers to young adults in the evening. The late 90s programming for the older kids no doubt was even enjoyed by people 20-30plus. I have no doubt I would have been watching it at the time.

They clearly over time saw that there was more money in the younger children. The advertising revenue for childrens toys obviously hit its target better and show merchandise for the lieks of Spongebob sold like hotcakes.

Over the years they phased out anything that would interest anyone over their early teens and killed off alot of their demographic. They seem to have forgotten that kids tend to grow up so its better to have some programming for them that wasnt riding the same live action train that disney started.

Once upon a time Nick had some decently gritty shows like Ren and Stimpy and Invader Zim which honestly werent really made for young children but was marketed and shown to them. Even Are You Afraid of the Dark and Ahhh Real Monsters had alot more grit han what followed in later years. Nickelodean lost their edge and thought Spongebob would be a cash cow to ride them into eternity.

The problem is that about 80% of that value (not an actual figure, just a guess) is now SpongeBob. Without SpongeBob, Nickelodeon really doesn't have anything, at least not like they used to.

And it's very dangerous to put all your golden eggs in one basket, if you get me.

They removed programs with good stories and replaced them with humoristic dumb programs like Uncle Grandpa

I feel that Nickelodeon went downhill once it became focused on awful live-action shows like iCarly and Victorious. Show that relied on "random" humor, and molding characters to fit stereotypes. Like the weird/nerdy kid, whose sole existence in the series is to be made fun of.
