Did EA stopped forcing us to use Origin?
A few days ago when I noticed Unravel and many games from EA appeared in Steam, I rushed to buy a few but I backed off when at the shopping cart I got a disclaimer that those games needed Origin account, and that software to be running in the background. Now that disclaimer is gone. Has EA stopped forcing us to use Origin? Can I purchase their games like any other Steam realease?

Can't confirm anything myself, but that's how it is for CnC remaster at least.

The "Unravel" store page still says you need an Origin account if you read the requirements:

INTERNET CONNECTION; EA ACCOUNT; STEAM ACCOUNT; ACCEPTANCE OF EA USER AGREEMENT (terms.ea.com) & ORIGIN END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT (ea.com/legal); AND DOWNLOAD & INSTALLATION OF THE ORIGIN CLIENT SOFTWARE (origin.com/download) REQUIRED TO PLAY. etc"

I've played Crysis 3, Mirrors Edge Catalyst and Battlefield 3 - all of which needed Origin. I also know of many other of their new games that require this.

However, the presence of Origin isn't too bad because once you link your account the first time, you never have to launch or login to the platform again. All that happens when you start the game from Steam is that a authentication window pops up for a split second and then the game launches. You don't need to sign in, visit the Origin store or launch via its library.

You wont even notice it running unless you check your task manager when in-game and it will close upon exit. I hate Origin as a standalone but through Steam it's not intrusive at all.

Storepage of Unravel as it shows for me. Look at the golden parts on the right: https://imgur.com/a/EqyqE1G

It says that Origin is required and that you need an EA account.

OP, there is some magic called "EA Access" which is yet to come, but, it appears, nobody is aware of whatever that thing will bring with it.

cnc remaster doesnt show anything on the store page saying you need an origin account (or any third party account), it only shows that you have to accept a third party EULA.

Thats a specialty of origin. Work in background to roll up ur engine.

Anyway ... things did not changed. Second client like Origin is one of the biggest brakepad of EA. They know exactly why they offer their Games now on Steam, cause its a big Deal there are tons of users who avoid origin but the problem remains the same. Game just with origin ... ok thanks ... good bye. For me i wouldnt buy any title. :tank:

EA is disgusting trash. Now they are pushing their sick propaganda on us here on Steam too.

You don't have to make everything about sex and identity....its a game...leave that subversive crap in the real world.

CnC remastered, Star Wars: Squadrons, Apex Legends, and Rocket Arena don't require Origin. I heard the only new (not new to Steam) games that will require Origin are their sports titles, I don't know how true this is. I read that the games that do require Origin use a thin client version that mostly functions as a simple DRM layer and just runs in the background and closes as soon as you end the game.
