MSI Afterburner = Ban?
For a long time I have used this program to monitor the temperature of the PC while I play, and if necessary change the speed of the fans.
I read right now that this program can cause a VAC ban. Now I'm worried. I don't want to risk the account at all.

I want to be sure that Afterburner will not cause a ban on my account, otherwise I will uninstall it. What I do?

I read right now that the earth is flat. Afterburner doesn't even interfere with games, let alone being from a rather much reputable company.

Don't believe everything that's written. People lie in the internet. You'll see lots of stories on how people who 'totally didn't cheat' got banned because of 'totally innocuous' programs.

I once read a cat stepping on the keyboard caused a VAC Ban. ;)

one of my cats knows how to turn on my laptop so I'd be inclined to believe this story...:-)

Then who can verify that people who say it does not cause VAC bans are not lying? ;)

No seriously... can you find the thread where someone said something about his cat causing VAC? :emofdr: could use a good laughter

Wrong.

Afterburner and Riva Tuner can interfere with some games (Crysis 3 and Burnout Paradise Remastered won't work correctly unless you make some tweaks in Afterburner/Riva Tuner).

That's not a proof of them interfering with games. Oh right, they do in effect, but do they really actually touch the game process, or is it more of a complex interaction of Afterburner/RivaTuner, the graphics driver, the graphics hardware and the game? Remember, we're talking VAC here and VAC doesn't care for interactions mediated by the graphics driver. Hey, I remember having to force v-sync on in the graphics driver control panel to get a certain game to run properly. Does that qualify as interfering with the game? I guess so, yes. But VAC doesn't care.

So ... can I feel comfortable, in your opinion?
In the end, it's a lie between those who have been banned, but the fact is that there are many who say Afterburner could cause the ban.

As the moderator (=someone with a good grasp on what's goin on on Steam) said, people also say that cats on the laptop cause bans. They also said that Afterburner doesn't cause bans. Common sense says that Afterburner doesn't cause bans (as I said, MSI is a rather reputable company and reputable companies with gamers as customers generally don't want to get their customers into trouble).

You're stepping the line between caution and paranoia. Again, "many say" doesn't mean it's true!

Rely on "the few but right people say". Of course, you can't know who's right in advance, but you can tell the right people from evil actors reliably by the way how they write: the right people provide background and thorough explanation of how they come to a conclusion. The evildoers and plain morons never bother providing proper backgrounds for their conclusions.

I've used Afterburner and RTSS while playing VAC protected games and have never received a ban

Thank you.
Of course, I am now more relaxed.
I have been using this program for about two years, in complete tranquility, but what I read today worried me, and therefore I asked for opinions. I'm not paranoid, but I don't want to risk losing all the games.

VAC bans are delayed, but sure as damn hell not by 2 years. Meaning if you've been using something for 2 years, there's no reason to assume you can get a ban for it. See it this way: what has changed from all those 2 years to today? Well, you've "learned" something. But that's your view on things, the underlying reality hasn't changed.

Personally, I used Afterburner myself and accidentally ended up corrupting my VRAM https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=375196556
This was many years ago, and I still do not have a VAC Ban.

How about msi killer network, got a warning years ago not here. Is it still a problem. Cause the program at that time legal program. Gave the user priority.

i have gigabyte killer network and do yourself a favour and remove the killer software, its total garbage. It works way better with the win10 default driver. The killer network app is incompatible with some games and will cause disconnects in some online games and crashes in offline.

That's from people who still refuse to admit they cheated and think making up some inane reason will magically get them unbanned
