Move your Steam folder to D & the games there as well. Example: I got Steam in D:\Steam and all the games in D:\Steam\SteamApps. That's way simpler than what you're doing. I even reset my system a while ago and really just had to start Steam.exe with all the games waiting there, still installed. No additional steps needed.
There is a file called libraryfolders.vdf in the 'steamapps' directory where Steam itself is installed.
This points Steam to wherever your games are installed. Luckily I have my old HDD sitting here untouched (in case something went wrong lol) and found this file in it. Copied it over to my new Steam program install.
1 TB worth of games I don't have to reinstall or copy over, yay!
The reason I had this setup to begin with is because my C:\ drive was an old mechanical drive, so I'd started to install all my games on a 2nd drive which is a SSD. I should have done what you said, it would have saved me a lot of head scratching :)
Cheers for the replies both.
