How do I remove the "new to library" tag

Rename it? If its a category you made, rightclick it in your library list and rename it.
Any name we give our collections are shown in the top right of the Artwork.

Have you... have you ever bought a game with the new Steam library?

For me it stays for as long as I am eligible for refunding (= 14 days) or until I start the game for the first time. So yeah the easiest way to to remove the "New to Library"-tag would be installing the game. You don't have actually INSTALL the game you can simply proceed to the "Allocating disk space"-prompt and as soon as you reach it just abort that.

That for what ever reason counts as "launching a game" which then voids the "New to Library"- tag
