Using VPN For Gaming
Hi guys, is it okay to use vpn to game on steam? Im worried that i might get banned. I am from malaysia and i use vpn to connect to singapore first since i get lower ping like that in my games. My isp has bad routing. Im not using the vpn to buy any games at all or things like that. Just mainly for lower ping

Using a VPN for this purpose is fine. As long as you don't use it to manipulate or mask your location, you will be fine.
''you will not use any software to change or hide your location''

i dont remember the correct line but using a vpn to do what you want is a violation of the SSA.
look it up

edit: found it:

You agree that you will not use IP proxying or other methods to disguise the place of your residence,
whether to circumvent geographical restrictions on game content, to purchase at pricing not applicable to your geography, or for any other purpose. If you do this, Valve may terminate your access to your Account.

Valve will only care about VPN use when you're using it to try and purchase items from another region -- that's a bad idea, FYI, they will remove your purchasing ability and other features as a result. This is at least better than the past when Valve would disable your account entirely.

While the SSA states you shouldn't use a VPN at all, Valve don't check when you're playing games, only when money is being spent. So as long as you don't access the store or make ingame purchases while connected to the VPN you should be fine. Just realise that you do so at your own risk and you could theoretically still have your account acted on if Valve decided to crack down on all VPN use.

People use VPN's on Steam all the time - it's only if you try and make a purchase or rig the store will it trigger the account lock mechanisms. This portion of the SSA is a bit outdated and dramatically worded and doesn't take into account the full circumstances and features that a VPN provides these days.

keyline: or ANY other purpose

its not that hard to understand

does that apply whether steam is running or not - so if we use steam we should never use a vpn ever? or just when steam is running? or just when accessing steam services?
Yeah it's fine to use VPN in games, loads of people do it.
this says in the SSA it will answer all the questions is this topic, its not that damn hard to understand:

So all those gaming tournaments, military personnel, university students, internet cafes and Valve themselves should have their accounts terminated then?

C'mon, the SSA may seem draconian but there is substantial leeway.

so gaming tournaments, military, university, and Valve use VPN/proxys? i see no reason why they need to use a VPN/proxy

Do you even know what a VPN is? Many people use these rather than a going directly through potentially vulnerable public networks.

im really not sure what you dont understand what says in the SSA, i seriously dont:
