A server in North Africa
Hello Steam .
Online gaming has drastically increased the size and number of gamers around the world (including Africa). Infact there are thousands of African gamers who wants to compete in online based games such as CS Go , Dota 2 ..... and the list goes on .
"Lag". We all know that the word lag refers to some slowdown or delays during a game. Some problems will be experienced if you are lagging include fluctuations in your ping and also packet loss which they lead to disconnections, miss shots , Teleporting .. the ping possible to get is 100 while European are getting 5 ping

Simply, the farther you are, the more laggy you will be . So at least we need a server to be hosted in North Africa whether in Tunisia or Algeria or elsewhere . Video games are being boring because of lag and ragging racist europeans who flame against Us!

to my knowledge it is usually ISP and companies/people in your country who will own/run servers in your country. I'm in South Africa and ISP have a lot of servers here.

Posting in the discussion area of the game/program you are talking about would be more effective then posting here as this is the suggestions and ideas area for the steam program itself which has nothing to do with the games other then telling the game to launch.

Why are we leaving out the rest of the continent? Seems like it's large enough for three or four regional server locations.

Does the additional potential average revenue per paying user justify a server in these regions or would it be a net loss for valve et al? Does the network and ISP infrastructure in these regions even make it possible?

valve is not responsible for the network or ISP infrastructure in any african nation or region. Now to my knowledge its usually the ISP and individuals and companies in that areas/countries what usually create, manage and run the servers in that area and the telecommunication company for that region.
Potential loss for valve, if you look at the amount of information download in the northern african countries and central african countries per country on valve download map, download total is roughly 1tb to about 11tb. compared to other countries whats doing roughly 1PB to 20PB if not more, which is a hell of lot more information, meaning people buying and downloading huge amount of information from steam in those regions. so potential revenue in the African regions with low download rates, maybe, revenue loss not much if you look at downloads.

But like i said valve not responsible for gaming servers. Yes they create and sell games and manage steam platform which sales games.

I see this as a really good idea only if there are accessible ISP's, and if there are enough people to make it worth the money for valve.

not just for valve, but other companies as well.

Yet the original poster talked about CSGO and DotA 2, both games by Valve.

A game server (be it DotA 2 or CSGO) in these regions don't make sense if valve wouldn't earn money with them, as in players willing to spend a dime while playing on such servers. Also, servers in such regions which are technologically behind by either bad peerings between ISPs, bad networking politics or lack of infrastructe, doesn't make sense either. Riot Games for example cancelled plans for South African League of Legends servers due to lack of reliable infrastructure.

so what do you suggest valve must do?

They won't do anything about it because it's not worth it for them.

late reply from me. Now you say Valve wont do anything, ok not going to argue, but consider this, Valve pretty much gives you, you can look at the tools section in your steam library, gives you software to create and manage a dedicated server for their games not just software to create mods, a few other companies does it as well. Dont get me wrong, yes it sucks if you want to play a certain game when there is either no servers or the servers is europe/america/asia region and your ping is high. But even if game companies dont create and manage a dedicate server in your region, surely there is people who create and manage dedicated servers in your region. if i can make an example, Call of Duty 4 Modern warfare, old game, i have been to a lot of lan event and this game always seems to come up. online servers for this game, pretty much overseas servers, but you know what, there is always at least one or two south african dedicated server or servers managed by someone either in Cape Town South Africa or Johannesburg South Africa.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
