Friends List Disconnects Daily (and then some)
Every day, when I come back to my PC, my friends list is disconnected and I see no one online. This isn't an issue with my internet, as it's happening with all my friends, too. I have to make sure I remember to open my friends list and click "sign in" manually when I use my PC, otherwise I won't be able to play games with my friends.

Same issue, though it DOES affect gameplay in my case.

Maybe not every time, but near enough every time it Disconnects, whatever game that i'm playing Minimises itself, back to Desktop.

It's hard to really describe just how infuriating this is. Some games, you can just click the taskbar icon and dip-back in. Others - usually older games crash instead.

I don't care if the Friends List is disconnected. In the past it would do so too, and re-connect itself when it could. But this stupid new UI, or something I don't fully understand?

What the hell is this issue?

I've been having the same issue for at least a couple months. I have a friend that I talk to every day, so I tend to leave their chat window open, and I expect it to remain open.

But, with steam's friendslist disconnecting for unknown reasons, and then not automatically reconnecting, I sometimes don't even notice that it's not there because my attention is on other things.

However, a further problem that's cropped up recently, is that when I manually reconnect, it tags the friend's chat window as open, but it's not there. So I can't see or respond to them, and I can't re-open the window because it thinks it's still there. My only solution so far is to restart steam altogether which is incredibly inconvenient.

I don't know that it would fix the secondary issue, but, why the hell doesn't the friends list just automatically try to reconnect every so often, like every other similar application? Why isn't there at least an option to make it do so?

The system is a total mess. Is there a genuine valve traced investigation ongoing?

Same thing here. but the real problem is that it doesn't try to automatically re-connect again. Tried to contact support but they gave me a default answer about connection issues.

Mine does it as well, even when I'm in a multi-player game.
I'm having the same problem.

Has been going on for quite some time now.. seems Valve like to take their time.

I wish they would fix this issue.

I'll just add to this thread, because the problem seems similar. I have 4 PCs that I log onto Steam with. My main PC stays online, I never type the password. When the computer starts, Steam starts and is online always; (unless Steam is down). Lets call it auto-logging into your Steam account. When I turn on my other PCs, they are older, Windows XP, 7, and 8.1, so I set their Steam login info to "offline only". This allows me to play older games on an older PC without having to deal with Steam; other than the initial Steam login into offline mode. When I turn on an older PC while my main PC is turned on, my Steam profile logs me out of my friends; as if I was completely offline. I have to log back into my friends list on my main PC to appear as if I was online; even though I was already online the entire time.

Also the same! the problem is the steam chat has a memory leak or something and the webhelper that controls it, starts at 120mbs some times more, when I close steam down its at 320mbs and that is without chatting to anyone and just a general play of a game.

Now I am just running chat offline at the moment because its telling me that am not friends with my profile, this thing is up the creek

This is how to fix it *sorry for the grammar*

1. open steam
2. (If your disconnected, connect to friends and go online.
3. Click settings beside the profile of friends and chat
4. turn on Sign in to friends when steam client starts

HOPE THIS HELPED :)

This...does literally nothing to solve the issue. This just auto-reattempts to open Steam Friends after a freeze/crash.

I'm testing this, because I've been having this same issue for some time now, but I read that clearing the steam web cache and cookies might fix it. Will likely respond if it doesn't.
