The price difference is more than 10%. You get a choice, cheaper games or gifting. Pick one.

let me buy it in USD then it doesnt even give the option to see other regions pricing. why would it be any diffrent of a price its still north america (minus currency valuation) steams never had a issue with that before 90$+ for a AAA

That's kind of misleading, the choice has already been made for him

He can move to the states if gifting is that important to him, heaven knows it isn't something he's entitled too.

Come on be a little realistic. He just wants to be able to gift even if he has to pay the recipient's price. I don't see what could be wrong with that. There probably is a reason, as otherwise they are just leaving money on the table, but they're a very private company. Maybe some fix is in store with the end of summer overhaul.
You said he has no options. He has plenty of options. He can: Go to one of the other platforms where gifting doesn't exist at ALL. He can: buy physical copies and send them. He can: Send them money or steam cards.

You want to be realistic, this is just another whine thread with ZERO effort to be constructive. If he wanted to be constructive he even could have done that.

So he gets the responses he deserves. THAT is what he is entitled to.

Valve did in fact gimp "gifting" in an effort to protect regional pricing and profit margins.

You can always buy on third party key resellers, such as GMG, gamersgate, indiegala, humble bundle....if you wanted to buy/gift a game key that can be activated on Steam.

Alternatively, you can use GOG.com and they allow for gifting.

Obviously we are talking about an option on Steam that on face value would seem to benefit both the consumer and Steam. I will agree though that his OP was not constructive

On face value the mess of allowing people to buy in the target regions currency in order to enable gifting "seems" like a legal nightmare. How many "I bought this but it cost more" threads do you estimate will appear because idiots don't read the payment page? Follow those up with the "steam won't refund me because they already accepted the gift!" Pile those two options on top of each other and include them into the "I bought and gifted this game cause he was going to trade me X".

"On the surface" gifting is a mess to begin with that has been a CORE factor in account hijacking and scamming. People whining about the changes simply lack the ability to think.

i dont have to be "constructive" i have a credit card that does the constructing for me. i guess im just done gifting on steam and will leave future titles un baught. i dont even own VR i was just buying it for him.

one less sale but go ahead keep defending steam? they are a service and they are failing to service their customers.
Actually, you do have to be constructive, it's actually part of the SSa and code of conduct.

I was thinking that too from maybe a tax standpoint, and it probably would be more of charged the equivalent in your currency like it is already with gifting to a significantly cheaper region. It would basically be like it is now where you'll choose a friend and it will tell you the price of gifting it to them rather than it cannot be gifted.

Well that kind of goes about anything. The more things people can do the more they can screw up

I don't really follow you on that one. Why would the refund process/rules have to be different?

Yes the issues already existing with gifting would apply.

That's not necessarily fair. Both sides have legitimate points and without any kind of official explanation we can't definitively make such conclusions
The refund rules wouldn't have to be different. But the moment people start making purchases they feel they get "overcharged" for because they didn't read, they open up a legal mess when it comes to refunds. Even if those people are no more legally entitled to a refund than anyone else the backlash alone is a nightmare, and add the likely increase in chargebacks and locked accounts... better to have a few people whining that they can't gift
u mean south canada :emofdr:
