I swear this used to be 'where you don't have to kill anyone'.
Evoland 2 (varied playstyle)
Undertale (battle like bullet hell)
Epic Battle Fantasy (turn-based like old Final Fantasy)
Oceanhorn (more like an Action RPG-lite Zelda Windwaker)
Transistor (action/strategy)
Dust An Elysian Tail (side-scroller with lite RPG elements)
Evilquest (playing it right now, if you liked Crystalis on the NES... without the maze that make you run in circle and get lost)

Assuming that you mean Undertale, here's the gist of it:
1. The battle system consists of a much larger than usual variety of commands.
2. The script is written in a very detail-oriented way that takes into account multiple possible results/endings/outcomes based on your choices of those commands.
As a result, if you go into it as you might play a standard-fare simple turn-based JRPG, you'll be in for an interesting surprise.
Avadon seemed cool though I never finished it. I got pretty far into it though. I also have Avernum 4-6 but haven't touched them yet.
I prefer older games as well as indie/middle tier games. I barely have games that are demanding on my system.
Also FWIW Steam doesn't have the Neverwinter Nights games but GOG does. Same probably applies to some other D&D or D&D-like WRPGs.
It is like Final fantasy Tactics, but offers going to level 9,999, 100+ party slots so you can keep characters and monsters you want. Rebirthing, mentorship, as well as characters can go through a variety of classes.
Its also has long term goals like a true final boss and item worlds inside every item which are randomly generated where you can improve items and fight item gods for the best of the best gear. It also has a funny (And faily long story) thats got voice acting.
Its also got a second much harder campagine called etna mode where you lose access to the main character (Until you go back to regular mode) and the main character becomes his succubus underling.
Also, humanoid characters can use any weapon, even the main character. The only ones that are limited are monsters which must use monster weapons.
The game has made many, many sequals and the PC version include a lot of dlc, if not all of it.
