What is your Dream Video Game?
What is your dream game?

So, I’m sure you all have one. That perfect game you want to play but it doesn’t exist currently. For some you with programing skill it may be a reality someday. Though for me however my game is largely wishful thinking. For one my dream game is so complex in design it likely wouldn’t be profitable to make even if it is achievable. It would also need to be popular I know what I like but I can't speak for you. I’m also not programmer or rich enough to hire one. So, this idea likely won’t come to be and that’s ok. I’m choosing to chase other endeavors but I can still dream.

And this is the part of the post where I vomit my idea upon the earth. The wall of text starts below read if you’d like...

The game I’d love to play would be a space game with a vast universe. It would have to be endless and worth exploring. I’m thinking a world kind of like how No Man’s sky is generated. I would also want to see an interesting back story with interesting things to discover and technology you can acquire. And this would exist on it’s own the world would happen around you, you are just in it.

But that is just the game world. I want to be able to build my ship and base from the ground up. Like space engineers or even Empyrion. It would be a game where you could let your creativity go wild and make all kinds of crazy things. There would of course need to be a creative mode, so you can build without limits to make things for survival. Then share your blueprints so if you need a ship and are not a builder you can borrow a design. I could travel the endless universe in my own custom ship or download a cool blueprint from one of you.

Of course, you will need to collect the resources from the world and refine them. It would need a good crafting system which will progress over time. Progression would be an important element as the early game would be a survival game where you struggle against starvation the elements and whatever creature you are unfortunate to have to face. These will become less of a concern in time and at some point, automatic as you unlock technology and build devices that make your day easier freeing up time for other things.

As you get your self-established and start to build proper ships and a good base you will eventually be able to hire a crew of NPCs to do your bidding. They can take on jobs to increase the performance of your ship and automate some of the tedious jobs that become to be pointless in the later stages of gameplay. They could be robots, clones, settlers, mercenaries, or children from your current population. As your team grows you will start to have to worry more about their needs, ensuring you set up a strong network to provide food, training, clothing, entertainment, shelter, medicine, and pay. You will have to manage your little colony with some basic city building elements it wouldn’t become too much of a micro-management game, but still immersive. You would also be able interact with other factions to make friends and allies opening trade deals and quest. But you can also make enemies.

From your community you will need to build an army and a fleet of starships to fend off invaders, secure trade routes form pirates, and expand your colony. In battle you can fight side by side with your troops or even take a step back and command them with some basic RTS elements.

It would be single player but of course, there would be multiplayer, so you could do all this with your friends. Together you could survive, explore, build a nation, and conquer the stars. Or engage in bloody combat for control of a solar system. I would also like to include an invader system or a fleet battle system where you could fight another player and gain an increased reward. With this you could gain fame for your command ability and skill in ship building. Blueprints could carry this information so the number of wins other players have with your ship would go to the builder builder including duplicates and alterations of the blueprint.

There is more I could add but in short. My dream game is an open world, sandbox, survival, game where you can build your own constructs and explore the world, but as the game progresses you have the option to progress into city building and RTS elements to expand your influence.

The code for this would be insane so I doubt I will see it anytime soon, also games tend to focus on one or two things well, instead of a bunch of things, so it might not be worth the effort.

What about your dream games?

A city destruction simulator where you have a city already built and you can just have fun destroying it anyway you want. Everything from natural disasters to doomsday weapons to alien invasions to giant robots and monsters fighting!

That honestly sounds fun

Take all of the best systems from life simulation games (Harvest Moon / Stardew Valley, Graveyard Keeper, Slime Rancher, My Time At Portia, etc.), implement new ones that haven't been made before, and condense it all together into one game.

Basically, it's the ultimate casual RPG where you're able to train any combination of dozen upon dozens of different skills, and just be any character you'd want. There's an absolute ton of potential professions that people could come up with, especially if they get creative with it.

Obviously it would be absurdly-complex and deep, and I doubt that anyone would be foolish enough to take on the challenge of making it. (It's definitely asking for far too much out of one team.) But it would make for one of the most replay-able and addicting experiences.

'Dream Video Game' has all ready been made... the 'MASS Effect' trilogy with all its DLC... everything else pales in comparison... Best Story... Best Characters... Best Multiplayer... throw in the 'Expanded Galaxy Mod'... well... that's just Gravy... talk 'bout 'Immersion'...:-)

Ending that disregards everything you have done.

Think of a game where you have the magic system from Morrowind, an expansive world packed with details like The Witcher 3, the ability to craft and do base/city building like Minecraft, a banking system with interest, the ability to own and/or fund businesses, unique NPCs you can intereact with and learn about, and all with a compelling storyline and better than decent graphics.

To top all of that off, it'd be stunning singleplayer only...

What is your dream game?

In these days? Let me think...

1. One title without spyware, tracking or advertising
2. One title without copy protection/drm plague
3. No exclusivity crap
4. Fullversion of a game would be nice. And no base product where i have to buy additional downloadcontent to get a complete version.
5. Product must contain update support for a long certain time
6. A product that really belongs to me after purchase instead of "rent a license" model
7. No forced online and/or activation mode
8. No waste of ressources like 50gb for ingamevideos only like some do
9. No Lootbox system or similar crap
10. No cheap Unity-Trash
11. No overpriced greedy stuff like some japanese or french companys do
12. Product must contain dynamic content and no "script run from -> to" or wannabe decisions/changes in the fictional world
13. Something really innovative. No game series like part x from xx or remaster/remake stuff which is already around 20 years old
14. Product without regionlocks or any other stupid restrictions
15. Must contain a manual save system. Automatic system suxx
16. Modsupport
17. Constant extensions in the form of updates as it was usual and not as extra season passes
18. No wannabe "retro" pixel graphics
19. No censorship
20. No cloud service
21. No patronizing of customers like some companys do "we tell you how you should play"...
22. No language restrictions
23. Product with a good quality and fully voiced in my native language
24. Openworld with a lot stuff to discover

And yes, all those points together would make a "dream" game...
