How does steam pay for cloud storage?
Maintaining all those servers must cost alot... how does steam, and other platforms afford to maintain them while keeping it free for users?

Every time you buy something on Steam, Valve gets a cut (i.e. Steam is not free for users).

- All sales Steam gets their small cut.

- Market place, Game devs, and Steam get their cut, unless it's a user mod content, then either it's Steam and mod creator, or dev, mod creator, and Steam.

- Sales on Valves own games, such as half life series, portal series, l4d series, TFc, CS series, pretty much anything that was made, or owned by Valve.

I assume most profits comes from sales, then comes market sales, and I doubt valve games are coming anywhere close for several years for sales, so just makes most logical sense sales cut being the primary for income.

Steam generates hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue for Valve. Adding desirable features for users (to keep spending money on Steam) is a good use for some of that revenue.
