Missing interface setting
In my steam client, under settings>interface, I have a tick box for "scale text and icons to match monitor settings" which makes the text large enough for me to read on my 3440x1440 screen. A friend of mine does not have this item under settings>interface. We have the exact same steam version, build date/number, everything is identical except for this missing setting.

Any ideas?

It is not missing. It is only a Win 10 setting in the client.

Added a checkbox under Settings - Interface to disable high-DPI scaling (applies to Win10 only)

https://store.steampowered.com/news/38412/

Tell him to log out. Right click on the Steam.exe in the folder and disable DPI scaling in the Compatibilty tab. Log back in.

We tried that and it didn't work, but at least I know why he doesn't have that setting now. He's not going to switch to 10 for it though, neither of us like 10 but I had to use it because my new computer has several parts that don't have drivers for 7. Oh well.

Thanks for the info.

He's got his system set up weird, he's got a 4k screen but running it at 1080p. Drvies me nuts but he has to run it that way because he plays from a sofa about 12 feet or so away from it with a wireless KBM set (but he hates consoles LOL).

I would fix it for him but he doesn't like anyone messing with it (even though it's one of my old computers that he's using so I know everything about it). It wouldn't run DayZ properly at 4k anyway, it's only an i7-920 with a single GTX 780. Bog city.

Yes my Windows 7 doesn't have it.
What is it that needs fixed? Since you've established the missing setting.

If it Chat text then those fonts can be made larger in Steam Chat Settings.

If its in game check the forums of the game for any font increase info.

Or if its for Windows Desktop and everything within then just bump up the the fonts in this > Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display. Or Custom DPI.

Unless they are maxed? Dunno. You didn't explain much other than.

It's the general UI of Steam. The text of the library, menus, cumminity, etc. Mine is a lot larger relative to my windows desktop.

Now I know why that checkbox disappears on my win8.1 but can found on win10.

unfortunately, disable DPI scaling in the "Compatibilty tab" is not work for me.
It really annoying and made bad feeling about finding games on the list.
