If they DO credit that at least shows the intention of the person posting it, and willingness to credit goes a long way.
But if they don't, report it. Yes, it's lower on the scale of things that mods deal with I suspect, but they DO remove things that don't belong here.
If you know the person whose art it is, inform them. It's up to them to do a DMCA because no one other than the copyright holder CAN do that. I see too many people uploading artwork from deviantartists that I follow, and it's very frustrating that some folks won't even say "this doesn't belong to me". I've seen people on Steam *actually claim to be the creator* of their artwork selections though they are clearly from dozens of different people *with the signatures on the pieces to boot*.
And no rule or any law on this world can prevent this. And it's good. All other would prevent innovation and further development. Of course there are some mights who try all to control the system. Artworks here are still the least important.
There's a few who care a little more, and there's a few who care a little less. For platforms like Steam or others it's only important to be legally secure. All other is not their job.... even if it should instead of denunciate and denigrate among users.
There's a lot more. Digital and real. So there is no need to tell me anything about "rights" or takedowns. Speculations and insinuations are made fast these days.
But @ rights There are things you can't change, even with the best laws and rules, especially when you look at human nature. I know my thoughts are a bit different from common but they doesn't change the facts/systems actually exist and how the topic is dealt with in these days.
And a fun fact to the end. Especially even Valve here doesn't care about those self proclaimed rules. Take a closer look into the TOS and the children protection settings. There's a difference between user and company rights.
well for mostly people who really doesnt drawing or cant draw wont care anything with that....(not all of them but most of them).
i agreed to report it but i never see these people get reported or their artwork banned by steam cuz i found some account that i know doesnt made that artwork but get thousand like from a game forum cuz its the game "property" or "character" and keeping that thousand like without giving any credits to it... i dont know why but it seem like valve worker arent intresting with "art" or drawing and how its feel if they had their creation get stealed and get more like than theirs....
I dont mind if they just giving credits without telling the owner but if theyre just uploap that artwork wothout giving any credits its just unrespecfull human being ya know
I've been fond of an idea to put together great artwork from all the Steam games I love (credited appropriately, official and fanwork) into one place to view them all together, and "Artwork" seemed like the right spot. But I'm a bit hesitant because of the aforementioned question, since it isn't officially 'appropriate'.
Some credits seem pretty loose and not entirely trustworthy. It's almost as if the credit is going to the user who stole it from the original source (without bothering to credit that source). So not only is the artwork being stolen, but a false attribution is propagated. What a tangled web!
Hmm true! I hadn't thought so much into that, as most of what I've been looking at and admiring has been pretty straight from source. Another reason we call it the web haha...
