I hate the new steam friends list.
I do not play CS:GO, nor do I care who is playing it. Allow me to turn this garbage, that I never asked for OFF.

Same goes for other games that seem to randomly pop up in my friends list UI. Why can't I just have a list of who is on and who isn't? Why did we need to make this look like a cluster%^&* of BS I never use and probably never will.

PLEASE, allow us to revert to the old window with a list of our friends names. Not what game they are in, not what you THINK I want to see, just a list of my friends.

I agree, we need an option to turn that off.

Old friend list already did those things as well. The only difference with the new one is that you can close the game group if there are too many in it.

So how exactly is this so much worse than the old version?
It's basically the exact same thing.

At the top of my friends list is a CS:GO group of people playing it. I never wanted or asked for that. Now, GTAV is showing up and my friends in game, never asked for that. I see no way of getting rid of all options displaying games being played and by who.

All I want is a list of friends that I can sort by "in game", online, sleeping or offline.

What benefit does this grouping of games (that I never play) being displayed at the top of my frineds list? Me no likey. Let me take it away.

This is what I'm talking about. Give me the option to completely remove this useless options. Just list my friends. . .not what games Steam wishes I would buy and play.

I know that it's that thing you want removed. But you thinking it's there for advertising is just silly.

It's so you can easily tell how many of your friends play a certain game so that you can join them.

Before everyone who played a game was placed at the top. Now you can just hide the ones in games you don't like or care about. So instead of taking 7 rows of friends it'll now just take one row with the game name.

So it isn't useless.

Also people have asked for an UI update for quite some time now.

Ok, so let's say I have hidden the games I don't like or I don't care about and I want to talk to a specific friend and let's also asume that I have 200+ friends in my list (as you said in my thread that there are people with so many 'friends' in their list). Atleast 100 of those 200 people are online and 60 of them are in 30 diffrent games (in 20 of those games I am not interested so I hid them) right now and 40 are just online. I am looking for this specific friend and this friend is playing a game right now. How the f I am suposed to find that friend now? I have to click trhough all those damn games. That is just insane!

Just give us the option to disable that nonsense. It makes the whole list unclear/confusing/irritating.

If you'd have that many friends you can just use the search feature that will instantly find your friend.

Because you're fine with a long list of friends you can just keep all the game categories open. Doesn't take any longer to find your friend in the new list compared to the old one.

Is there a way to revert this back clientside, the layout now is a bit too bothersome as one it now screws up how i had my layout setup espicaly on friends and now people are spamming porn with the chats (why just why) also it's for me at least Probaly others too screws me up when trying to do stuff under friends names like trade or view profile as examples, the old layout was refined quite well but this new one is too clunky and bothersome for me (aswell others) so is there a way to set it back, clientside as i know just typing this wont get dev's to move but still.

It breaks the whole thing, when the games are all open then list becomes even longer.
Btw, what is your problem? Nobody wants the feature to be gone for everyone. All we want is OPTIONS! We are on the pc not on a freaking console, so give us customisation options.
No need to always argue against people who just dislike some of the new features, we know that you love the new ui and it's features.

Your reasoning is flawed. I personally had everyone tagged and a specific few fav'd so I only saw who I wanted to see when I wanted to see them.

Furthermore I configured it to one line per contact, which meant I could see about 3 dozen contacts at a time on my list. Now there is MINIMAL difference between Compact ON and OFF.

The only feature that impressed me was drag and drop images into chat, and I've still not had a reason to use it.

I still hate that CS:GO is on the top of my friends list. Let's not discuss how much I dislike CS:GO so what is the harm in giving me the option to REMOVE that from my drop down list of games?

I'll take one good reason and then shut up forever but until that day comes, I hate this.

I think I am upset the most due to the lack of control over the matter.

It may be true some people asked for this, but it came as a surprise to a lot of people that didn't ask for it, and now must contend with what the vocal requestors had wanted.

Having the option to keep the interface information dense, clean, and without distractions would be a great plus for me. There are some benefits I really don't value, but I wouldn't want to see the progress stop because some old crank resists change.

It'd be nice if the old crank could change his settings to match his prefences, though. It's why he has a computer to begin with, and not a console.

we need the option to turn it on or off.

I am glad I'm not alone on this. I have the option to turn off "Big Screen" mode, how is this any different?
Pacifist Jul 30, 2018 @ 4:06pm
My problem is that it actually shows games I don't even have. Like idc who is playing GTA V, because it isn't like I can play it with them so what the hell. If you are going to do this, please allow us to close these tabs permanently. Or maybe give us the option to enable certain games that we actually do play (so that ways at a glance we could find out how many of our idiot friends are playing CS:GO at a time). Just seems so silly.
