How To Disable Steam Chat - Working
Okay, I like many others did not agree with Steam adding the "chat" program and making it auto load up and have no way to disable it. So I tried a few things until I figured out how to stop the chat program from loading.... Here is the way:

1.) Click Steam on the top left of the steam client
2.) Click the Settings tab
3.) Click Family tab
4.) Click Manage Family View
5.) Set up everything so that everything but friends, chat, etc is enabled. DO NOT ENABLE (put a check mark in the box that says) FRIENDS, CHAT....
6.) Set your pin code.
7.) When you are done, if you see a green Icon on the top of the client, you are in family mode. If that icon is red, then click it and change it to family mode. Once you have the green icon, close down Steam completely and restart it. Your chat program should not load back up automatically....

This will have to work until Steam adds a way to disable the chat without having to use Family View.

I’m gonna give this a try! I don’t use Steam for chatting anyway.

UPDATE!

I sent in a support ticket about the chat issue and this is the reply I received.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Steam Support. I apologize for the delay.

I can definitely understand your concerns about seemingly new features showing up suddenly. Steam has had a chat feature built into it for some time. However, with the most recent Steam Client update, many of the features associated with chat were revamped, and are currently more prominent than they have been before.

In response to feedback we have received about the new Steam chat features, we have implemented an option to sign out of the chat feature. We do not have a way of removing the chat portion from the Steam Client without removing the client itself, but this option will render the chat feature unusable.

Please follow the instructions below to participate in the Steam client beta which may correct the issue you are seeing:

1) In Steam, click on "Steam" in the upper left, then choose the "Settings" menu. (Preferences on Mac)
2) On the "Account" tab under "Beta Participation" click the "Change..." button.
3) Select the desired beta test from the "Beta Participation" drop down list and click "OK".
4) You will be prompted to restart Steam, please select the "Restart Steam" button.

Note: In some cases, you may need to perform these instructions twice for the beta to take effect.

If you have any further questions let us know. If you encounter any difficulty with this process, please refer to the Steam client Beta group.

The beta was updated to include offline mode on the 27th, yeah...

With just how Kaka Val's chat security is even today.....That not even my monitored ZT 215 Sonicwall can keep LevelHilterTech a.k.a Wendel's little black hat hackers out of my box becuase Gabe is too damn lazy to have a SQL / Command injection check. This needs to be a "must have have" for anyone who is security minded.
