Now I get this message.
"Sorry, some kind of error has occurred:
You have logged in from a new device. In order to protect the items in your inventory, you will be unable to trade from this device for 7 days. "
Naughty Gabe isn't getting my mobile number. It would be much better if the holiday cards weren't included in this nonsense.
The automated message you are receiving is a security feature for when your account connects to a new device that it hasn't used before or where tracking cookies have been elimiated from trace. All email and other online account have such a security measure in place.
The mobile authenticator is perfectly fine and you're not giving your phone number direct to Valve. Very strange that you happily use public PC's but get all defensive when it comes to security features that are designed to protect your account against the very thing you are doing...
And if OP owns a mobile able to use the authenticator app he probably also can check the Steamguard email on said device, without having to log into the email account from the public computer.
If someone was using a phone like that then would they be using a public computer.
A lot of it isn't needed for low value or fun items or even steam guard for forums. Steam could have a second inventory for you to put items where you can trade without having to go through all these extra actions.
I never said I was on a public computer. The message that Valve pops up mentions public computer.
