how do I turn off the friends window on startup?
I don't like it when the windows pop up without me opening and I've turned it off for steam itself but the window keeps coming up. Also I don't like the new big picture mode.

I don't like the new friends window interrupting me either, and I cannot seem to find the option to stop it from popping up. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you both mean the notification that a friend has come online, etc? Clink on the word friends at top to open up the friend box. Then, click the gear icon opposite your name and a drop down menu will appear. Click Notifications and turn off what you don't want.
Otherwise, there are 4 small icons at the top opposite your picture in the chat window. When you hover over the first one it says "toggle chat window docking.'" Is that what you mean?

No, we're not talking about that. We're talking about how the window opens after Steam starts up, and we want it not to. I'll try toggle chat window docking, but judging by how it's phrased I have my doubts that will solve anything.

Same here. Looks like steam is forcing user to see their new "feature" -_-"

You used to be able to opt to not sign-in to the friend's and chat when you load steam. Now it forces it online all the time and you can't go offline anymore. If I would have known this was going to change I would have rejected the update to steam yesterday. Between this and the security issues people have reported this is really a poor decision on Valve's part. They should revert the update until they can close all the security holes and issues up.

Yep, edit a shortcut of Steam to have -nochatui -nofriendsui after steam.exe in Target, and it should work.
CrayfishAndy Jul 25, 2018 @ 8:39pm
+1 the -nochatui and -nofriendsui appears to work for that, but then I have to put it in shell:startup or shell:common startup and can't just use the old fashioned Steam Client Bootstrapper like I always have, plus it doesn't launch friends list, but all of steam does now

Can't I just have all of Steam startup minimized like before this stupid UI change? Help!
