Memory usage also got worse with the last steam update.
Gah, I guess I'll try bumping it's priority down to low in windows taskmanager and see if that allows for memory it's hogging to be taken.
Hint. Unless you've got rthe window open in the fore ground most of that 'Memory Usage' is in the form of the system Pagefile. Translation. It's not occupying active ram, so you needn't worry about your ram. Takeit from someone in the same boart. My system is maxed out at 8gb and I have seen no performance drop when it comes to gaming, or anything else.
Unfortunately it's going to take most of next year to get the parts because still got stuff to replace due to not being able to work + need parts to fix the 2nd hand S7 Active I brought...
PC's are kinda effecient like that. So uinless you're one of those madmen who disabled the pagefile...
SOme of us don't immediately go: "Big numbers scary!" on reflex.
As if Steam RAM usage is gonna cause any issues. Your standard Internet browser takes far more and don't see anyone complaining about that.
800mb is likely what windows is reserving for itself and its various operations.
Your system is funnily enough a luittle newer than my own. The main way you might see an impact is if your pagefile is on the same drive as your os/apps. In which case the system has to shuffle IO more.
Tell me about it. Just take the time to learn some simple windows tweaks that will help. One that works wonders is creating a fixed siize for your pagefile. Somewhere between 1x -2x the amount of physical RAM you have. so in your case pegging it to about 12gigs would be a safe middle ground. That way your system doesn't have to waste time (and memory) growing and shrinking the pagefile on the fly.
The actual value thats Ideal for you will vary from system to system. SO its best to experiement. Generally not advised to go lower than 1x though.
Also keep in mind that your gpu maybe bottlenecking your performance, as in your gpu is likely out-pacing the rest of your system bus.
Otherwise. Disable things like the in-game Overlay, and don't login to friends. Either of those will remove one webhelper app from your system tray.
Keep in mind My system is an intel Core2Duo 8500 with 8gb DDR2 ram and my workhorse apps,. The the apps I keep running almost all the time in addition to steam are the Adobe and COrel Suite of programs. I.e Heavy duty memory gobblers and I am able to game quite comfortably.
EDIt: Okay WTF Steam. 'Munchers' is a censored but 'Gobblers' is fine?
Damn, that's probably it, as I have to run pagefile on C:\ due to the sata chipset crashing if I run pagefile on any of my 2TB drives
Thanks, I'll try those and I'm guessing disabling overlay will have the biggest impact when I'm running Destiny 2.
And yeah, I will be so happy to finally have a new computer, which ironically I can now afford to get because my depression's not shifted in 5 years and so Work & Income NZ agreed I should get shifted to a higher paying benefit. Because my depression's still bad enough to leave me unable to work due to stamina issues. Which don't lift even when I bike 60Km+ a week. Though I do have to leave off buying a new monitor and an m2 SSD until 2021.
[edit] Pagefile's already set at a fixed ~12GB on C:\ Lawl, probably should just buy a 2nd hand SSD and destroy it by setting page file to it. I'm also out of space for HHD's due to my case missing it's 2nd HHD rack ;-;
If you're playinga game like destiny 2, yeah you're probably challenging a bit above your weight class there. But turning opff the overlay and friends should cut down a bit. THe UI's memory usage may verywell get lighter as Valve refines things a bit. Remember with software implementation, you aim for functionality first, effeciency second.. I.e get the features, in, working, and not crashing. THEN figure out how to streamline things.
Also is your case also out of 5.25" bays because an adapter bracket would not cost much.
I do not have to run the browser to play my games..
They do but they have a hard time with vocals.. they don't talk ..
But hey .. whatever makes their mountain higher.. I have a feeling that this stunt is not going to have the intended effects..
I say .. whats next.. what else is up Valves sleeves...
I never had issues with the old one either but I do consider the new UI an improvement in most areas. Being able to see cards on the game's library page is a heck of a time saver for me. and the what's new thing in the home screen is actually quite helpful for keeping me informed as to special in game events or such. It's actually allowed me to trim my follow list a bit.
