Waiting for Steam funds to become available after refund
I bought Halo: Reach on its own, but after playing a bit decided I wanted to buy the full Halo collection. So, I did a refund and plan to buy the full collection using the refund money and some extra. But it's been maybe 12 hours since the refund was approved and the funds are still pending.

Just wondering why it takes so long for funds to become available in Steam after receiving a refund for a game.

PROCESSING TIME? just like any transaction really it will slowly go down and keep updating you when they will be available

Yeah, it's processing time. It just seems odd to me that there's such long processing time for Valve to transfer money within their own system. I probably would have had access to the funds by now if I had chosen to have them refunded to PayPal instead. But I chose to have it refunded to my Steam wallet because I plan to use them to purchase the full Halo collection and I thought it would be quicker to get access to the funds from the Steam wallet than it would be from PayPal.

It's not too big of a complaint, but I think they can make it go faster than this, considering that the funds are transferring within their own system and not between 3rd-party services.

That's because how the banking system works overall.
But you don't have to wait, you can buy the collection now

I could, but if I buy it before the funds clear in my Steam wallet I'll end up with $10 sitting in my Steam wallet, not knowing when I will use it. I'd rather have it in my pocket, available to use for other things.

Then you have to wait.

I'm aware. Hence the creation of this thread.

Refunds to Steam Wallet take roughly 24 hours, +/- 2-3 hours.
You can also click on the "pending XX $" message in the upper right of your client,
it will give you a time estimate how long it will take.
Beware that the estimate does not update in real time, it goes from 24 to 12 to 6 to 3 to 1 hour.

Interesting information, thanks.

It seems the mention of how many hours are remaining is under "pending XX$..." -> Account Details. It currently says that 6 hours are remaining.

it varies, depending on a few factors, but generally it should take a 2-3 days after its approved for the money to go back onto the card or in your wallet.

The funds are now available in my account.

The processing time seems to have not been entirely accurate as it hastened closer towards the end. It went from saying 6 hours remained 2 hours ago, then it said "within 3 hours" about 1 hour ago, and I just noticed that the funds are now in my account.

That's good. I guess the estimated time can be pretty loose. I wonder what the overall time was. I'm guessing that it was around 16 - 18 hours.

It varies. Someone on my list just got a refund and it took 3 days during the sale.

Probably depends on whether you use paypal, or through an actual card from a bank.
I've noticed paypal is fairly quick and stable on other sites.[I've only refunded I think twice here so I can't remember] Usually no more than 24 hours could be a general timeframe unless something gets hung up in the system or investigated for one reason or another. [Like shady sites or overseas payments]
