Do Steam reports even work?
:hi:

I've been wondering for a long time now, what really happens when you report someone's steam profile for cheating in a game or on steam in general. I reported someone last year for walling in Counter Strike: Source (that's just an example of the many reports that I made to different accounts) and this person is still being able to play that game. When I just tried to report him again, because it is clear to everyone in the community that he's a hacker, it showed that I already reported this person.

So does that mean our reports are not being checked? What really happened last year when I reported him? I know for a fact that he has a cheating program installed on his PC that is a monthly subscription and allows players to get away with it on CSS by walling, aimbotting etc.

I'd like to hear an answer from a person in charge on Steam.

Thanks in advance.

They will not tell you if actions were taken for obvious reason.

It also depends what kind of banning you are looking for as vac bans do not work based on reports like that.

The only information anyone here can give you is this:

How could you know that?!

If a player is reported in game often enough, they may be passed off to the Overwatch or whatever other system is in place for that game. They might be judged 'okay', or maybe there was cheating or griefing involved which may lead to a game ban.

Vac is an automated system that detects KNOWN cheats. They are applied as bans in a delayed fasion. Read the article, please.

And yeah unless you're sitting next to the guy, you have no idea whether they're just good or if they have cheats. Don't assume. Just report, block or make sure that you don't play with that player and move on with your life.

Dwelling on it makes you look a bit creepystalker.

Report cheaters in-game. Doing it via the profile is just for statistical purposes now. The fastest and most effective way is using a report feature in the game itself or contacting the developers direct depending on the game.

Reporting cheaters through their profile will not result in a ban. It is only for statistical purposes only.

That's why you report them in game and let OW deal with it.

Well, I wasn't waiting for you to confirm your opinions on me. Other than just commenting about my life, you don't have anything better to say I see.

And for some of you who wonder how I know if he cheats, I know that in real life too. But I'd give personal information about people I shouldn't mention and it's none of you a business. We are a community that games together, but some are toxic players who join the server and it IS a fact that they use hacks by a program that is well known in the game. Yes, I've seen people next to me playing with that game installed on their PCs.

CS:Source doesn't have an in game report system. Thanks for your reply.

Reporting profiles doesn't do anything anyways.

From what I see, justice is slow, but it does catch up. Most of the people I report take a long while before Steam notified me that action has been taken. Not saying action is taken upon all of them, because there's no way for me to know that, but it does happen most of the time when I report.

Not likely to happen here, since this is a user forum.

Hope you have a great day! :8bitheart::lunar2020ratinablanket:
simple answer: THEY DO NOT.
Pocahawtness Mar 1, 2020 @ 6:52pm
They do work but be prepared for it to take a very long time.

I think the reason is that there is a huge backlog of reports because some people file reports for the most ridiculous reasons.

There's also mass reporting from people on crusades, and that bogs down the system even more, I think.

Then call them on it if you're there "next to you". In fact, unplug their computer and make them leave your guild. I mean - they're bringing YOU down with them.

I love how you -repped my profile lol. Telling you how things actually work, and giving suggestions about why they work the way they do doesn't mean I'm a meanie with a mad on about you. It means: you clearly don't understand how the system works, and want it to do something it cannot.

If you know these people personally or outside of Steam, *call them on their behavior* and get them removed from your group. There's no reason to keep playing with people like that.
