I don't think you can, I think you can only accept from people on your friends list.

Code or digital gift card? Both have their own minor risks although not all that concerning.

Codes can be used to initiate an account recovery but they would require access to your email address and have accumulated a lot of details about you such as payment details and proof of account ownership.

Digital gift cards can be charged back and lead to your account getting locked although I'm not entirely sure on whether the restriction applies to the recipient or the person who pays for it.

That's about all I can think of for the risks but most of the time it should be safe.

are you accepting a physical gift card or a digital gift card? why are they giving you a gift card?

possible bad things:

chargeback, causing the funds to be revoked from your account. if any of it was spent, you wind up with a negative wallet balance, purchases revoked, etc.

Wouldn't the negative balance only affect the giftee and not the recipient though?

The giftee is the recipient.

Gifter ---> Giftee

If it's on YOUR account, it's YOUR problem, so yes you'd have trouble if that happened. They wouldn't. Also they would be very likely KNOWING all this, because people are jerks.

So unless you know this person in real life, there's zero reason to accept ANYTHING from them that is 'tangible money'.

But it would negatively affect both accounts.

Gifter receives fraud alert for issuing a chargeback. There are no refunds on the digital wallet cards sold here so, that is the only way it would happen.

Giftee has all games removed. If purchased items on the market, the balance would be removed and the items locked to the account.

^^ count me curious as well, because there's only really one reason for this, and you won't like it.
In real life I would be wary of gifts (or money) from unknown people for obvious reasons, It would sensible to consider the same for people online too.

Yep sounds very dodgy. Its like a man or woman with a black jumper and white shirt on underneath it, its not really a priest, dont get in the car with them ;) and if they ask for donations I suggest running because there`s a strong chance they wont catch up. :)
