What's the most hours you spent on a single game?
I looked at my history and was surprised to see that a while back I spent 615 hours on Tales of Maj'Eyal.

only 615? Over 5000 on Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup[crawl.develz.org], next up would be Sven Co-op with around 3.5k~ then BYOND games, finally, DotA 2 on steam at near 3000, guild wars 2 with thousands, etc.

And to think people pay for games that are over and done with, with little reason to replay, in a single digit number of hours.

Over 1800 hours in Left 4 Dead 2 across all my accounts. I don't play as much as I used to.

you're paying for production value. Bioshock Infinite has in my opinion, the best story in any first person shooter ever. It may only be 10 hours, but it's a great title worth playing/buying.

Or you could play a game made to be endless like DotA 2, DCSS, https://store.steampowered.com/app/803600/Disgaea_5_Complete__5/?snr=1_7_15__13

They typically have more lackluster to being completely void of stories (or just there to introduce new content).... If someone asked for a new game to purchase, I'd most definitely say Disgaea 5, but I'd still recommend those single digit AAA games with incredible amounts of attention to detail, and presentation.

I have a ton of time in the games already mentioned (ToME and DCSS) but on steam I have the most time in Mordheim at 900ish hours.

Since I've played DCSS on many computers and both offline and on many different servers (both ssh and webtiles) I can't say how long I've played it but probably more than Mordheim.

However, for many of people who spend hundreds of hours on a game, their average enjoyment ofthat time may be as great as someone playing a highly rated short game. Most people would switch to a different game if they weren't having any fun. And if what you care most about is story, you might be better off watching movies or tv shows or reading books instead of video games.

I have played some games that were totally worth the money for a short play time. Anything by SuperGiant comes to mind.

not necesarily true. Playing the game yourself especially if it got stories and even a branching one would be a good experience rather than watching lets player.

I did say "might". And I wasn't comparing it to let's play videos, but story based entertainment that have nothing to do with video games at all.

Hm...I'd say over 300 hours in Fallout 4. Which doesn't sound like much, but it's a feat for me, someone notorious for buying tons of games and never beating them :P.

The fun thing about a video game is that you play the story, you are the story and experience the story. It's why I love storybased games.

Anyway, I've spent thousands of hours on CM 01/02. I've been playing it since 2001 now, though the past few years it's about 2-3 months a year that I play it.
