Family sharing isn't even sharing anymore
I don't know if this is an update or something because it didn't always be this way... I can't play games that my brother has purchased on his account while he's playing a completely different game? Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of family sharing? We purchased most of our games on his account and only purchased games on my account that we wanted to play together. So I can't play dead island while hes playing HOI4... this is so stupid and completely defeats the purpose of family share

It's been changed to 5 users and 10 computers. I family share with my daughter.

Thats so great!! I love how video games are becoming less of a "guy only" thing. people are always surprised when girls play video games or assume i only play video games because of my brother or for attention but i have a feeling this generations going to be different
I'm 45. My younger sister is 2 years younger than I. We have always been into video games. Both my kids caught the gaming bug. I have my now almost 20 year old son's older gaming computer and he is building a new one. I told him when he tires of the one, I will buy it off of him. :lunar2019laughingpig: My husband likes games like Tetris. He has tried to play the Lego games with the kids over the years but they prefer Mom. :Animal_Instincts:

That's the drawback of buying games digitally!!

I have plenty of Steam games on Physical disks that I bought from the store shelf. And I can play them anytime and also share them with friends for them to play on their accounts without any of this "Family Share" bs.

Just the other day I gave my friend my Prison Break disk. It doesn't even need a key just insert in drive and install. It will install Steam too and you can start the game from there, or from the disk.

The only problem is that now that he's got the game disk I can't start the game on my account until I get it back from him. The old Steam DRM. Game won't start unless the disk is in your drive.

But hey ..I can at least share the majority of my physical disks and friends can play them while I'm playing my other games.

it always worked that way -- play locks the whole library. And it is okay.

The part that is not okay is that we asked so many times to separate the F2P games. That could be on a different account anyway, that just causing inconvenience. Launching those could leave the library not locked for FS purposes.

We asked for this since the start of the feature in vain.

Family Sharing feature is stupid. All you have to do is get your friend's or relative's login info and then click on 'steam' in the upper left corner and click on 'go offline'. Bingo. You can play to your heart's content while the other person plays their games online. (or it can be done vise-versa). I can't believe Steam doesn't just use a similar method for "Family Sharing". My son already had an account so instead of making a new one when I bought games, I just did it through his. Now I setup my own account but all my games I purchased are on his account. They won't let me transfer ownership to games he never plays but I do. So, it's back to the old way of using his sign in info and use the one account and we both can play games. Waste of time making multiple accounts. I wrote Steam and they told me I'd have to buy a second copy of each game for the second account. Ya I'm gonna buy a game twice.
