Wired XBOX 360 Controller Not Recognized by Steam

Hello,

My wired XBOX 360 controller is fully recognized by my PC (windows 10.)

The drivers are fully updated. I have tried multiple controllers. Steam is fully updated. I have tried multiple ports, front and back. I cannot even adjust big picture settings since it only says 'please connect a controller.'

It just doesn't recognize the controller.

Hey dude. If you're working with a play and charge kit it won't work as that kit only charges the battery while it uses wireless to connect to your xbox when playing there. you'll need a wireless dongle

I spent so long trying to figure out what was wrong and this was it. The controller with charging cable shows up in the device manager as a controller but nothing sees it as one. Switched to an all wired controller and it worked!

I'm having the same issue with my RockCandy Xbox 360 controller, but I'm using it on my Chromebook. It works just fine with other apps outside of Steam on my Chromebook, and it works just fine on Steam when I'm on a Windows computer, but Steam on my Chromebook won't detect the controller. Can someone please tell me how to fix this ASAP?

And no, I'm not talking about Steam Link. I have Steam installed on my Chromebook via Linux, and aside from the controller issue, I'm having no problems with it.

Do you use Windows 10? There was an update recently. Check for updates in your Windows Settings. Make sure your OS is updated if you haven't checked it yet.

Ah I missed that part that you have a wired controller, mine is wireless and it connects with the Microsoft dongle that I have. But I use an XBox One wireless controller now and have had no issues with syncing it through the controller settings for Steam.
