Wired XBOX 360 Controller Not Recognized by Steam
Hello,

My wired XBOX 360 controller is fully recognized by my PC (windows 10.)

The drivers are fully updated. I have tried multiple controllers. Steam is fully updated. I have tried multiple ports, front and back. I cannot even adjust big picture settings since it only says 'please connect a controller.'

It just doesn't recognize the controller.

Thank you all!

It does not work? Try setting it up on Steam. Above all you can see ''Steam'' next to ''View'', well try this: Steam > Settings > Controller > General Controller Settings > and select Xbox Controller. and configure it :rbrb2:

Edit: After you do that try using steam in Big Picture Mode.
Hmm, thanks, but I can't do that. That's the problem. There's no way to do that because steam doesn't see that it exists. There is nothing I can do in general controller settings or big picture.

is it a genuine XBOX controller or a knock-off (MadCatz etc.)?...:-)
It's a real Microsoft controller, and I've tried two of them so I don't think it's the hardware. I assume some system in my computer is interfering somehow with steam and the controller communicating but I can't imagine what.

Have you tried getting it recognized by your computer before?

Do you have an XBox 360 wireless dongle at hand? You need that for the XBox 360 controller to be synced up to your computer. The dongle itself connects into a USB port. You should find one on Amazon or wherever that has them.
Yep, it's connected with the USB. My computer recognizes it just fine, there's no issues finding it under device manager as 'XBOX Accessories.' I can even check, update, delete, and reinstall the drivers with no problems. It's just in Steam.

Do you use Windows 10? There was an update recently. Check for updates in your Windows Settings. Make sure your OS is updated if you haven't checked it yet.

Ah I missed that part that you have a wired controller, mine is wireless and it connects with the Microsoft dongle that I have. But I use an XBox One wireless controller now and have had no issues with syncing it through the controller settings for Steam.
Yeah, I'm wondering if recent updates have left wired 360 controllers behind because I made sure all my updates were done for my OS, which is windows 10.

do we have confirmation of Steam not supporting the 360 controller any longer?... I ask for I've been using my Steam controller for the last few years and they're no longer making them... I was thinking of getting a 360 controller for when this one wears out for I don't much like the ONE controller... I'd be surprised if the 360 controller is no longer supported by Steam... it's still probably the most used controller...:-)

What do you see when calibrating it using joy.cpl?

My wireless 360 is still working.

I had issues with this as we'll...

You need to have X-Box checked, before trying to get Big Picture Mode to allow access...

No idea why, though... ~_~

I had the same issue, but once I checked PS3, everything started working again...

Already have the driver installed, but Steam won't recognize the driver for me

Steam Still Supports Wired Xbox 360 and Wireless Xbox 360 (using the wireless reciever)

See list of supported controllers here:
