Friend doesnt need a mic.
Thanks for the help.
but, the purpose of making Steam recognizes mic is to use mic in CS:GO, not voice chatting with friend. I found out that when mic works in Steam messenger Voice Chatting, mic works in CSGO too.
I have the same visual as you, in which my hotkey space is blank, which will not allow me to input any hotkey.
I have currently messaged Steam about it, and will let you know what they say.
& I think it's under Voice...
It'll say something a little like Push-Talk Hot Key, choose or specify
your Input ""
Good Luck...
PS: This is from a non-mac user, but hoping it might
be the same, or at least simular results...
[Edited]"Srry, I see your issue now, your Mic. is showing up as a pair of Headphones,
you need to change this, because STEAM is not picking up a Mic. from you at all,
make sure it says Mic. & I am aware that some Headphones do have built in Mic. but
I still think you don't want Headphone as the choice for your Mic. I would think that
you want that listed as a Speaker Setup, not Mic. Does this help make the Push
to Talk Hot Key Appear? No?"[/edited]
Yes, we understand how to get to the VOICE settings in the friends' list. However, our question really is that the Push-Talk Hot Key is blank. Therefore, we are unable to choose an input at all. The blank box does not let us input any key, so therefore we cannot use push-to-talk.
I believe that we are both trying to figure out how to talk in-game for CSGO. As of now, since I cannot use my mic in CSGO, I cannot hear anyone else talking (part of the new update is that if we don't have a mic, then we cannot hear others that have mics). Once we figure out how to use Push-To-Talk in Steam, then I think CSGO will work.
Fair enough... I only pointed that out, cause when looking at the Image you showed me,
I did notice the Mic. was not being indicated as an actual Mic. so it got me thinking that
you had something wrong with the way you had it setup, & possibly could have been
the cause of why Push To Talk = NULL or nothing...
Since this is not the issue? Then, you may want this in STEAM Suggestions, or
contact STEAM About it...
So I found out my mistake... and let me tell you it was quite the stupid one.
I am able to talk in-game in CSGO even if my Push-To-Talk hotkey in steam is blank.
Try these commands in your console:
1. voice_enable_1
2. voice_system_enable 1
3. voice_modenable 1
I tried these all and I can now hear other players / they can hear me. Please let me know if this works for you @PSY and I will still update this forum when Steam responds to my email.
Cheers mates!
But I found out how to assign push-to-talk key in Steam voice chat and unfortunately, the fact that you can enable push-to-talk doesn't make Steam to recognize the mic like I expected.
You can go to "Friends list settings" in-game (In CSGO ->Shift+Tab -> Friends & Chat -> Friends list settings). And there, you can assign a key to Push-to-talk.
It is weird that you can only find those assignable blank only in-game, even though it is the same Friends list settings window. I think it's kind of bug because we're using steam on mac.
And I almost forgot about this problem. Because I'm using Discord now. Even if I could use in-game voice chat, the languages people are using in CSGO are either Chinese or Russian which I can't understand. Nonetheless, I hope Steam to fix this Mic issue.
