Who's still gaming on Windows 7?
Haha! :D

I'm actually using modern hardware with Windows 7 and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

I'm on a 9900K 4.8ghz, Asus Maximus X Hero, 16gbs of Trydent Z 3200mhz CL14 RAM, MSI Gaming X 1080ti, 970 Pro nvme 512gb (for the OS), a 1TB 970 evo plus (for steam games) and a 6 year old 1T WD Black 7200rpm mechanical drive (cuz why not?).

I'm using a Noctua NH-U12A to cool the 9900K.

So far at least for MY needs I don't need Windows 10 at all.

I play modern games, such as Rise of the tomb raider, Shadow of the tomb raider, Honey Select (a hentai game with great graphics specially if you mod it) Resident Evil 2 remake, and Dead Or Alive 6 and of course Skyrim with tons of mods <3

I also play older games from early 2000's.

Overall all of my games run perfectly at a buttery smooth 60fps max settings locked. I don't have to deal with any spying BS or all the bloatware that Windows 10 has built into it.

Windows 7 feels like a classic windows experience. It's straight forward and as the user I have full control of the OS.

It's 10 years old but still works perfectly for the games that I play.

I made this topic because as we all know Windows 7 will lose support in about 2 weeks. So i'm just curious as to see who else is rocking Windows 7 like I am.

Haha nice :D

I actually own Windows 8.1. It's not as bad as people think it is. However it doesn't hold a candle to Windows 7 :)

I don't own Windows 10 but my friends do so I have a lot of "hands on" experience with it. I don't like it at all.

I play all the same games ( including Honey Select :P) and i switched to Windows 10 on release day.
In my opinion its the best Windows by far and never had a single performance or other problem on Windows 10. It actually was more stable then Windows 7/8 for me in these 3 years.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also, Windows 7/8 spy every bit as much on you as 10, the difference is that 10 TELLS you about it at installation and lets you turn 95% of it off.
For the 5% rest there are 1 click external programs.

But you are free of course to continue using Windows 7, its still a good OS.
Just be aware that all security updates for 7 will cease on January 1th 2020.
So if there will be a security exploit in the future you are pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Also, more and more games need Direct X12 in the future which only runs on Windows 10 onward.

Indeed, same here. Local account+ the app Shut Up 10 gets rid of basically all telemetry. Windows 10 pro with group policy as well. If you’re worried about your OS spying on you, don’t forget your ISP is the real spy.

The security update thing doesn't bother me that much. I rarely ever look at porn on my PC. Plus don't forget that I use an updated web browser. If I was using IE then I would be in trouble. Even with an updated OS.

You can have all the security in the world, but you "look" for trouble you will find it even with all the anti virus software you can have. It's not enough to protect you.

It's been like 10 years for me since the last time I had a legit infection on my PC.

I mainly use my PC for gaming, casual web browsing, (sites that I already trust) online shopping/selling things on ebay, and the occational youtube video upload.

I pretty much only install software from trusted sites like Steam and such. So yeah like I said I haven't seen a legit infection in AGES (in my PC's I see them often in other people's PC lol).

Also windows 7 does NOT spy on you on the same level that windows 10 does lmao. Windows 10 is basically legal bloatware and spyware.

So far every single game that I want to play works perfectly on windows 7 so i'm not worried about DX12.

However in the future I would like to use RTX so I know that will be an issue. But as of right now i don't care about RTX it's a "gimmick" for the time being IMO.

Lmao damn 9800 GT kinda reminds me of my 8800GT back in the day :)

What specs does your new PC have? I'm guessing they will be night and day compare to that potato (no ill intentions with that comment) you have now.

I recently built a PC for a friend with similar specs to mine but with a 2080 super and only a 1TB Evo 970 plus.

I will replace my 1080ti with the rumored 2080ti super if it's true.

Same here win 7 64

Had to slipstream drivers [MSI Smart tool]

Had the nag screen from microsoft [you can't use this cpu on windows 7] when trying to use windows update.

but found a work around online

I have tried windows 10 on VMware, can't even disable services I don't need.

Windows 7 FTW :steamhappy:

You have to jump through some hoops to get Windows 7 on modern hardware but very doable :D

I basically did the same as you. I had to slipstream USB3 drivers with a similar tool but from Asus and used a UBS Flash drive for windows 7 installation. Once all the drivers were slipstreamed like USB3 3.1 and NVMe driver the installation went very smoothly.

Then I just downloaded the unofficial patch to allow windows 7 to download windows updates on modern hardware.

Other than that EVERYTHING runs perfectly <3

For those willing, get the Start10 and Fences bundle for ten dollars here on Steam. You can then upgrade. Just be sure to deactivate if you install to a different computer. The license is good for five computers.

I miss the retro Steam client but I don't miss Win7/8/10 interface, WinNT on the otherhand...
