Winter Sale Coupon bugged
So, I had finally gotten enough tokens for the winter sale coupon, and figured I may as well use it before it's rendered useless. Tried to get Wolfenstein: The Two pack and applied the discount of the coupon.

However, the transaction process halted Steam entirely, and had to force restart it. Now, I no longer have the option to use the coupon, but still have all my tokens there (from the last time I checked anyways). Checked my Paypal to make sure I didn't get ripped off, and my money is still there.

So in all, am I just out of the coupon for good?

Well there could be some weird caching in the client, do you see the same thing when you look in chrome/firefox?

I think the OP is right.

Since the sale, I've spent about a hundred bucks. The first purchase was for around 70 and it gave me about 11,000 tokens if I remember. Redeemed some of those against a winter sale coupon which then shows up as a banner at the top of your store page as 'ready to use'. I made some in-game purchases on a title yet even though the voucher had disappeared from the top of the store page, I was charged full price for the purchases. I thought this was a bit weird but didn't think anything of it until I redeemed more tokens and got another voucher. Again, I made more in-game purchases but was charged full price yet the winter sale voucher had disappeared from the top of the store page again.

If the vouchers hadn't been redeemed against anything or in-game purchases aren't eligible for voucher use, then where the hell had they suddenly disappeared too? So I opened a support ticket to hopefully get some answers and to the bottom of it and the agent replied back 2 or 3 days later, "According to our records, there's no history of me ever purchasing any winter sale vouchers!" WTF?! lol I respectfully replied back, I'm not going senile, I specifically remember redeeming tokens to get at least two of those sale vouchers. I also suggested he checked the purchasing history again and to try and work out considering how much I've spent on Steam this week during the sale, try and work out how many tokens those individual sales are worth and then see what those tokens were spent against. Easy.

I'm waiting for a follow up to that mail but I'm glad I've found this thread and I'm not the only one noticing something weird in regards to these sales vouchers.

Thought I was going mad at first, so thanks lol

I just loaded $5 since I need an extra $3 to get what I wanted with the 6.50 coupon after loading the money and my token count going to 5200 I put the item in my cart and it was in my cart that steam asked me if I wanted to buy and apply the coupon I did and it worked fine.

UPDATE:

So a new agent finally got back to me and seems to contradict the first.

1) Apparently, you can only redeem and spend ONE discount voucher during the sale. (In that case how was I able to acquire TWO and could possibly even acquire a third if I had 1000 more tokens at the time of writing this update.)

2) Vouchers also cannot be spent on in-game items. (Which is totally fine but in that case where did both the vouchers disappear too after I made those in-game purchases)??

3) They now expect me to believe I spent 11,000 tokens on leveling-up badges! (I think I'd remember spending THAT much on badges! Plus I specifically remember acquiring TWO discount vouchers! LMAO)

Sigh* So what have I learned from this latest interaction with Steam support?

When you spend money on Steam purchases it leaves a 'purchase history' so you can check things if you need too. There's no such thing for event tokens either from the account holders point of view or apparently it seems, from the support departments point of view. This is obviously very problematic as they'd be able to see a 10,000 token 'black hole' to account for the two discount vouchers I remember acquiring.

Like the OP says, there appears to be some sort of bug with the redeeming of these Christmas event vouchers. Also, the inconsistency between what support staff are telling me doesn't help matters either. I'm beginning to suspect they may actually know about it and are trying to play it down until the sale ends tomorrow and before more people notice it and create a fuss.

Two vouchers at £3.80 each is £7.60. Not exactly a fortune I know but that could have been spent against another Steam purchase I made a couple of days ago. In any case, I'm not letting this lie so when I hear back from support, I'll keep you updated.

Von, your Winter Badge is fully leveled up; that's 15,000 tokens right there. Some people have used tokens to get the coupon, then spent tokens on other things, not realizing the 5,000 tokens for the coupon wouldn't be deducted from their total until they used it to make a purchase (& subsequently ended up w/o the coupon). Could that be it?

It states only ONE coupon can be earned which means 1 is the limit regardless of bugs.

You spent 15,000 tokens on the badge since its Lv. 15 which is the max

1) Then how was I able to redeem two?

2) And I didn't max that badge out on the first day from the initial 11,000 tokens I recieved. I made more various purchases throughout the week which gave me more tokens sure but from that initial batch of 11,000 tokens on the first day of the sale, I bought two separate discount tokens for 5000 tokens a piece.

Hi,

You may be right but are you saying the 5000 for each token isn't taken out of your token balance until it's actually used against something? If so, what's the point of having it as a banner at the top of your screen as 'ready to use'? It's very misleading especially when the banner disappears without a trace.

As I understand it, that's how it works (or fails to, depending on your experience w/ it). I didn't get a coupon myself, but someone posted a screenshot in another thread showing a popup that appears when you select the coupon, that states it to be so.

Edit: The screenshot is linked on post #29 in this thread:

Yeah, that's what I had. It was a banner saying 'coupon ready to use' at the top of the screen. It was there one minute and then disappeared after I made in-game purchases that I've been told aren't eligible. So went and redeemed another (or so I thought) and the same thing happened again.

My bad. It might not be bugged but it certainly could have been designed and implemented a little better I believe.

Thanks for clearing that up for me though.

No problem, sorry it didn't turn out well for you. I agree, it could have been better implemented.

Hope you have an excellent New Year. :winter2019happydog: :2019love: :winter2019happyyul:

You had enough tokens for two and a glitch in the UI made it appear like you had acquired two. The stated limit is one, the UI being bugged doesn't change that. You're very stuck on this because you thinks it gives you some validation. We get it, it looked like you had two. But the event clearly states you're only allowed one.

But you keep asking why. Why you were able to redeem two. Because Valve isn't perfect, all programs have bugs. And lucky you, you found one.

Man, I was so caught up in family gatherings, I forgot to update my own situation. I was eventually allowed back my coupon and used it to buy what I couldn't before, but it was strange since Steam support had yet to get to me through email.

Hopefully this is isn't an issue again in this new year.

Sorry but nextgengranny above kindly cleared it up for me already so the matter is closed for me now. But thanks for your valuable and constructive input though. :steamfacepalm:

Try and enjoy your New Year :2019love:
