Expensive Tokens.
I usually enjoy sales events by Steam. They do try to be innovative by introducing different events while combating exploits and catering to publishers. I do understand and appreciate all that.

However, recently they introduce event tokens that you can use to purchase emotes, badges or other menial stuff. I tend to collect them all as it feels like some sort of bonus or additional rewards that is GIVEN for fun when you purchase something off Steam.

I maxed out the badge for Lunar event because the points I had was so many to spare. I didn't bother to trade it for discounts as I rather wanted something that is special and limited period availability.

But, this time around, it feels like Steam is trying to cash out of the success of the tokens rather than awarding people for being part of the event itself. It really requires you to dip a lot of money in order to collect all of these items. Plus, I only get rewarded with tokens for purchases a week prior to the winter sales event and I actually did quite a number of purchases prior to the sales about 2 weeks before.

This is the first time I feel disappointed and probably the first time I will missed out on completing the tradable collection.

Uh. “One token equals one dollar” is not the correct ratio. :homelol:

You tellin me, o_@

I added up 98,000 Tokens in Total...
I had lost count after that...

That is like a total of $98,000 you would
need to spend, in order to collect everything...

$980, still quite a lot. But this idea that you should be to, must be able to, need to be able to, get everything offered in the market place is just weird to me. It's dinky digital knick-knacks. Is Steam your one stop shop for chat emotes or PC games?

I left out the part where you can collect up to like 2,000 Tokens
to get things with...

I nearly specified what each token is worth, & how many tokens
is actually required to actually purchase everything in the Event...

I added up all the numbers... If you want to check, yourself, you can
go & look it up...

$1 = 1 Token is right...

But I counted up like 98,000 Tokens for the Event, & I lost count
after that... You can try & prove me wrong, that $98,000 would not
be needed to get everything?

Again, that is if I understood correctly
that $10 = 10 Tokens, & 1 Token = $1...

---------------------------

Anyways, anyways... You guys mentioned about how Valve is Rewarding
it's Gamer's & doing things innovative to be better from other Platforms?

I hate to say it...

But...

While Valve gives us Emotes, Wallpapers, & Trading Cards, which
kinda boosts our Lvl's & what we can do on STEAM... That is nice & all...

But these are just simply images we can't really benefit in, &
I have noticed recently that it's getting, harder & harder to
even collect the Cards to even make the Badges...

I tried giving a Friend a Card to make his Holiday Badge,
& he tried to do the same for me...

Turns out, I had a 15 Day wait Period, & it expired in 17 Days,
& I had only 1 Day to make the Trade, mean while, he couldn't
even Trade his Cards, because some weird thing with that...

I have only 2 Crafted Badges out of my Entire 11 Years on
STEAM, & only 1 Foil Card... & this does not include Spending
money to get...

As far as I know, recently EA Games & Ubisoft both started
allowing the Gamers to actually not just get Experience twards
leveling up, but they also found a way for them to give the Gamers
a way to actually put their points to use... o_@

I would forget everything else about the holiday market if Valve made the winter coupons have no limit or at the very least a higher limit (like 3 or 5 at max)
So if the Valve give you +10 or +20 dollars.
Cheap.

It quite clearly states one dollar nets one-hundred tokens. You are off by a couple orders of magnitude, as Brockenstein has also pointed out.

If you want proof,

Earn More Tokens When you Shop in the Winter Sale
Shop on Steam during the Winter Sale and earn approximately 100 Festivity Tokens for every $1 you spend on Steam (we'll convert your spend to USD first, so it's really for every $1 USD you spend, you'll receive 100 Festivity Tokens). You will be granted Festivity Tokens when you fund your Steam Wallet (during the sale) or make a purchase using non-Steam Wallet funds ....

but it's on, I think, literally every page related to the event.

I wouldn't be the person getting the benefits but I think that if there was a better limit to these coupons then people could be wanting to get more on steam seeing that they get an even better deal, and also since the other stuff on the Holiday Market isn't that good in my honest opinion.

What sort of things do you expect for a short lived temporary currency that has no value outside of tracking how much money you've spent?

yes, but one emote is 500 tokens..and theres alot of them.

edit: i got stickers confused with the emotes. emotes are 100 each.

So? You can't buy everything on event quests alone... it is a store, surprise they kind of want you to buy things. One of the benefits of being a paying customer is you get more "stuff". And customers who spend a lot are more valuable, so they get more "stuff". It's pretty simple. And it doesn't matter, the "stuff" is frivolous/trivial knick knacks (and yes, one $5.00 coupon).

Yep, i wanted to get all the emotes and backgrounds like during the summer sale but its way too expensive as i need to spend 5€ for every badge and more for the backgrounds and chat emotes. Absolutely crazy.

This is called "looking down the wrong end of the telescope".

You buy GAMES. You dont buy tokens or these junk items. You spend money for games.

If you are spending money on tchotchke junk, then you are making extremely poor decisions.

To repeat an analogy: you like the "free" plates they are giving away at the market. Cool, fine. You certainly dont go buying $1000 worth of milk and bread and perishable products to get the "free" set of dishes.

...or maybe you do.

They're not perishable products, they are digital products. Don't judge others how they spend their money.

Or being realistic? You can get all worked up over nothing if you want, I'm not going to be. It's all just emotional, reactionary responses over what amounts to nothing and no one is going to care in a couple of weeks because they've lost nothing and haven't been harmed even if they're really really put out right now.

It is rather disappointing since you are essentially punished for having more than 5000 tokens, what would people do with the rest of them, buy some stickers we would never use again or spend 5000 more on yellow text that lasts 2-months?

That's an interesting way to look at it... but yeah. It's a rinky-dinky temporary currency that has no value that can be used to buy silly things that also have no value. t's just supposed to be fun and frivolous and people start assigning all sorts of value to tokens and emotions that they're being hurt by the event. But it's to be expected, every event has people complaining until the cows come home. Even the events you might remember fondly, people were complaining incessantly.

These items cost money to obtain and that's fine except the prices are out of whack as has been explained here multiple times. Items that cost money therefore have a value. Geez. Pop out of your bubble and spare us your sanctimonious ramblings Yea it's supposed to be fun except the profile costume costs $50 to get. $50 is not frivolous. So much for the have nots getting in on the fun during Christmas. It's a stupid profile. I'm free market and all but billion dollar Gabe and friends could do a little something for the community without putting the community tit to the milk machine.
