Steamworks Common Redistributables?

Everytime I download a game I get another installation from the Steamworks Common Redistributables. Anyone know what this is? Because I found only ever so little information about it.The installation folder for it is getting over 10GB in size, is it safe to delete? I really need to free some space on my drive.
