Funding Wallet to get token?

So I'm about to buy Steam gift card from Gamestop to put it my wallet, or I could get my friend to send it to me via Steam. But I want the token so question is if I use the Steam gift card will I get any token? If my friend send me $20 via Steam will he or I get the token?

Buy a game with wallet funds, get just the game. Nothing extra.

So you can buy a game with non-Steam Wallet funds. But that's just one option. If you use the gift cards during the sale to fund your Steam Wallet then you can also get tokens.
