New Steam Voice Chat My Friends Can Hear Themselves
Lately while I have been voice chatting with a friend while we play Terraria he has been having an issue where he hears himself in chat as well me. This didn't happen before the new update which added the new look and features for steam chat, I tried with another steam friend also and they also heard themself in the chat while speaking. I am wondering if anyone else has had this issue since the update also, it is likely just a bug which may be fixed in the future but just wanted to hear about other people's possible experience with this issue. I've noticed I can hear myself as well but it isn't very noticiable for me but my friend finds the issue less bearable. So please feel free to mention if you've had this issue and even list a fix if you have found one.

Both of us disable it?

The one causing the echo shall disable it.

How close is the mike to your speakers? or your mouth too close can effect sound quality volume etc.
Laptop or PC?
Headphones with mic? would stop that.
Have you ever run any voice tests to setup the voice chat?

The speakers are turned off when I plug in my headset, I normally play with speaker sound but when I want to voice chat with headset I turn off the speaker volume and use the headphones and microphone. The microphone was set in the steam voice/microphone settings in the old version, You could set up/test the microphone volume but in the new version that is gone and only options for upping and lowering input and output gain.

In case you haven't fixed it so far, you can try this :
- right click the speaker icon near the clock, click sounds, go to recording devices
- disabling the "stereo mix" from the "recording" tab in windows
- disabling the "realtek digital input" from the "playback" tab.

I know this has been inactive for nearly a year, but I just started having this problem myself. I play on Windows and always have my headphones in when voice chatting because the audio straight out of my laptop's speakers always causes feedback. However, now there's feedback no matter what settings I have and, currently, not having headphones at all creates less feedback than when my headphones are plugged in. I've resorted to the push-to-talk function, but I'd rather not have to worry about that. Has a solution been figured out? I tried everything listed, yet there's still feedback.

Not always. It is quite common for headsets with mics to pass the mic audio through for some reason. Happens with Turtle beach headsets quite alot.

This still happens to a friend of mine, actually I hear myself and it's really annoying. Anyone found a fix?

Its usually going to be the headset your using. Buy a new headset like plantronics or even better get some nice headphones and buy a antlion modmic.

This happens to me on random lately with my friends when we chat only on steam.
Everybody uses a headset with mic (no speakers)
but there is an echo on random and it is pretty loud. Almost unusable chat.

Same gear for everybody we swap and chat not on steam but on discord, 0 problems...
This is a steam chat issue.

Any solutions, so I don't have to force every new steam friend to open a discord account...
