Australian download servers slow?
Im locked at a download speed of 150kBp/s and it is not from my end. Speed test bumps my recieving in task manager up to 30 Mbp/s, steam is not increasing, what can i do to fix this? restarting steam and the computer doesnt work and theres nothing else leeching bandwidth.

Change your download region in your settings.

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9498-WPDF-3220

Download servers get affected by congestion, this isn't something new.

You are assuming that this is the problem, so i provided a 'solution' for your assumed problem.

There are many other reason for slow downloads.

1) Network related - router, DNS, and what not.

2) PC related - AV software, CPU / Disk IO limitations.

I have just tried changing download regions, and the results are not much better or worse. I know that every other region i have tried is not congested and Its solely and issue i have with steam. Every other application uses all of my bandwidth (or at least tries to) but steam will not budge

Is your NBN capped? Could be Christmas traffic . Keep and eye on it around 8 am. I find traffic increases around 9pm
NBN is a joke we dont have it yet up Cairns way and we hear so many complaints NBN compulsary is slower than what we currecnty have now which is around 25 megs a sec and higher even up to 120 with fiber

It cant be capped as the blizzard launcher is downloading diablo at my normal download rates. The issue is exclusive to steam.

blizzard launcher probably using a different server.
Our downloads speeds are determined by the host we download from.
ok, try this go to Steam settings>Downloads clear Steam download cache it will exit and require you to restart Steam log in again
Do the same for web browser delete web browser cache.

8 years on steam, 4 houses, 6 ISPs, 3 computers, numerous modems, Wireless NBN, fivre to the kerb NBN and ADSL. Never seen a Steam download move faster than 2.6 Mbs, doesn't matter what region I set for downloads. On the same connection I'll regularly see 45-50Mbps download from anywhere other server. I have even seen CONCURRENT downloads (downloads happening while steam is downloading at 2.2Mbs) coming in at over 40Mbs.

I like how on every single thread asking why Steam downloads are less than 5% of the typical DL speeds from literally any other server, there's someone trying to imply the problem is on the user's end. "Check your modem settings. Check your Region. Your ISP must be capping speeds. Maybe it's sunspots" How about just coming clean and telling us you can't be bothered investing in Oceania servers. So if there is some magical settings or way of sacrificing someone's firstborn child people have used to get consistent 20Mbs downloads in Australia on Telstra, spill. KInda sucks buying a game and having to wait 15 hours(!!!) while it downloads. Maybe Steam could try reinvesting some of their profits in renting or buying some decent infrastructure down here.

I have found the servers a lot faster since i have had NBN and i have the Turncoat version. Though i know in some areas where the NBN is a lot slower because of the Turncoat version.
