If you liked Civilization V i can recommend "Endless Legend".
Think of it like a Fantasy ( on the first view..) version of Civ with some really
cool gameplay concepts.
One of the main things i like about it is that all the factions play totally different and each has their own quests and story you can follow during a match.

Hm, well if you thought Nobunaga was too complex most other recommendations are out too.
The above recommended "Shogun II - Total War " would be the best bet for playing a Japan themed strategy game then.
I personally am not that big a fan of the Total War series but that is just my taste, the Total War games focus very heavily on the tactical battle side and the strategic layer on the world map is very shallow ( at least for me).
I enjoy more the empire managment part and less controlling the actual battles in historical strategy games.

There is also an older PARADOX ( makers of Crusader Kings 2) game called " Sengoku" which deals with that period of Japanese history. But its even older then CK 2 at this point.
Its rather simple though, at least for my taste.

Old game but enhanced. Much more streamlined than Age of Empires; so it plays kinda like WarCraft III and less like a typical Age of Empires kind of game. It is an RTS and shouldn't be that complex for you. Random Map generation can give a lot of replayability if you like Skirmish. Though don't buy the DLC! The Chinese/Japanese pantheon totally wrecks balance and IMO breaks the game lol.

Really fun Slavic folklore kind of TBS game. Sorta similar to Civilization if Civilization focused more on an RPG angle. It seems overwhelming at first but it actually isn't that complicated. The combat system can be hit or miss with people; so maybe pay attention to some Let's Plays covering it. It can get repetitive/micro intensive having to manage multiple people/camps/orders.

Much closer to a typical Civilizations style of game but heavily emphasizes combat. So don't expect Diplomancy and City management to be a major thing, though you still can win peacefully or through Alliances.

I have a few oddball kinds of recommendations but they favor RTS gameplay and some are Indie/Early Access. Some others favor Tactics RPG style gameplay and can be overcomplicated.

There is a new game named Aggressors: Ancient Rome and it's influenced by Civilization series but originally based on a boardgame made by the dev himself.

It's not demanding for your PC at all (the engine is about ten years old), it has a learning curve but some good tutorials and active player community in the forums.
It's singleplayer only atm, have a lot of depth and detail and there is a very nice ancient "Oriental" mod in the Workshop:
